read somewhere that the D-line play 1 yard off the ball in CFL. will it benefit wake being 1 yard closer to the QB. Just a thought.

Being 1 yard closer, being an OLB, and having Porter on the other side, this might be a deadly combination!!!

Well, 1 yard off the ball would give the rusher 1 more yard of momentum so I would say it's an advantage. he played a rushing OLB in college though so it won't be anything new to him.

Having the D-Line play one yard off the ball is usually an advantage to the offensive line, especially in passing and short-yardage situations. In passing situations, the offensive line has extra time to set up in their stances and prepare for whatever the defensive player might try on them.

Ya but in turn it gives the blocker time to get set (stance, feet, hands, etc..) which i think would be more of an advantage.

Im going to assume that you did not play any fornt 7 position before. Being 1 yard off the ball is a HUGE disadvantage for a rusher as he ig giving the OL a chance to set up. Once an OL is set up with his fet underhim and ready to punch YOU ARE DEAD. In additon being 1 yard off the ball puts you one less yard away from the QB. Have you ever heard the saying that this is a game of inches? Well take a yard into consideration.

I don't know CFL rules but I can tell you from my short run in the NFL 1 yard closer to the ball is HUGE. In fact in San Diego they would film us from the side in practice to see who was lining up off the ball and who got off the ball the fastest.

I don't know anything about wake but if he was that productive and was 1 yard off the LOS he may be something in the making.

trust me, it has an effect.

i played DE in high school, cegep(kinda like prep school) and college ball in canada, and we play american rules in high school and cegep. When you make the jump to college, the CFL rules apply and, well, let's just say my freshman year was a hard adjustment. The yards takes one precious thing out of every DE's game: speed rush. With the yard, you can't just run past OT anymore. You have to be more physical but most of all, you absolutely need to be a good technician

Cam wake adjusted to that thing in a year, producing what... 16 sacks in his rookie year ? that amazes me. I'm not jumping to any conclusions, i'm just saying that this adjustment, his back to back defensive player of the year awards and his 22 or so sacks in his second year are 3 big accomplishments that can't be overlooked because of the letters: CFL , because that yard, is a real PITA

Hes going to be playing in space at OLB anyways, so it doesnt matter.
Actually it does matter. Lining up at OLB or DE doesn't change the fact that he will be closer to the line of scrimmage and thus making it easier to put pressure on the offensive player to get out of his stance faster in order to block him.
