I know many of you on this board would like to get rid of D. Patterson but I think he's just as important of a player as B. Grimes. In my opinion, injuries are the luck of the draw in football and all you can do is hope any player stays healthy. When this guy was healthy.... he was playing BETTER than B. Grimes. having two shutdown corners on your roster is worth the risk of either one getting hurt during the year. This guy was all over the field early in the season, batting down balls, intercepting passes etc.. I would keep him on the roster even at his current price of $5mil. He's still young enough to recover from his injuries and could be good for a long time.

I don't think he's as important as Grimes, but I think we need to keep him. He was solid while he was healthy, and there's no reason to believe he will no be healthy this year.

Yes, injuries are luck of the draw but when your injury prone, throw that luck of the draw out and understand he will be injured. Patterson could be good, however he will be injured again this year as that is his history so better to part ways with him, unless he takes a significant paycut, closer to 1M.

Lower his contract and go out and signed S.Shields! Dump Carrol..

Patterson will be 31 in June. He is not that young. He has played 8 years and played in all 16 games just 1 season. The last 3 years have been 14, 9, &6 games played. And last year of 6 games he did not finish at least 3 of the 6. 5.4 million is too expensive for him. At a lower prove it salary I am all for it. But for 6 to 7 million a year you could go get a Shields or someone younger. I do agree I would love to go back to the Madison/Surtain days of having 2 shutdown corners. I would try and keep Patterson on a pay cut to have him man the slot, otherwise not interested.

I believe our coaching staff is looking for one of our young guys to step up and save money by cutting Patterson. Philbin was able to bring Davis and Taylor along slowly due to having solid vets in place, much like Dion Jordan/OV, and they didn't play very much. I expect one of these guys to play significantly more minutes this year.

My money is on Taylor. I haven't given up on either of these guys yet. CB is usually a tough transition from College to the Pros. I liked what I saw from Taylor when he was drafted, I think he could be good for us if he can get healthy and take that next step.

I didn't know he was that old, for some reason i thought he was like 26-27. Well knowing that, i definitely wouldn't give him a long term deal. How many years does he have left on his current contract? I'd let him play it out... Pray he stay's healthy and have one of the best if not the best CB tandem in the league (assuming he plays like he did those first few games last year). The way he was playing early last year I don't think there are any younger CB's out there that would give you that production. If they could restructure his contract great. But I'd hate to see him go somewhere and become a shutdown CB

Shields is better than Carrol although Carrol had his best year last year.

Patterson's health is the key. If his groin is fully repaired he can be a very good player. In not, then cut him and put the money towards resigning Carroll, who definitely improved last season.

I'd ask him to take a paycut to 2-3m/year and if not cut him outright. Though if this is his last year I'd look at resigning now with nothing guaranteed.

I want to keep him. I'd roll the dice that he returns healthy and stays that way.

When he was on the field, he was our most productive corner.

Take the pay cut or get cut...he's not worth 5+ million per season. I'd like to keep him around but not at that number.

Patterson is a good player.....but only if he is on the field. He is way too injury prone at this point. At $5M per year, we can't afford a part time player. He can be released and resigned or simply renegotiated to an incentive based contract.....that rewards him for time on the field and performance...otherwise, he is a cap casualty.

Last year, Patterson had 3 good games out of 6 but with 4 picks. The year before, he had 2 good games out of 9, with 0 picks. He is not that good but, a decent backup for $2-3M. I believe Taylor will be our starter this year.

Why do people care what he gets paid?

We don't need the money as a team. We're not below the cap, if we do want a LT or Bryd we have plenty of money for it. No need to cut him, no need for him to take a pay cut.
