D. Patterson

You cant "restructure" Patterson's deal because there is only 1 year remaining. You also cant simply cut his pay because you would have to release him from his old contract first, essentially making him a free agent. And this idea that we need to look up and down our roster and adjust everyone's pay based on injuries and performance is just unrealistic. No player in his right mind is going to agree to that. Its either cut him or pay him, there is no in between here.

He played 6 games last season with 4 interceptions
previous 73 games he had 5 interceptions

Has played only ONE-16 game season in 10 years

Restructure his contract and go from there if healthy

Please tell, how would you restructure it? These are the options: continue paying him / pay-cut / cut him

Am I mistaken that it is a common practice in the NFL to release a player, only to have them resign with the same club at a lower amount?

tl77 - I think by "restructure" we are all taking pay cut here.

gotcha...They are just two very different things is all

I believe we can add a second year, and guarantee his salary this year at a lower rate. Not sure.
