Anyone else hear this goon telling Florida recruits that they don't want to go to Miami because the fans are calling for Patrick Nix to be fired thru the medium of a message board?

Dabo, Are you serious?

What kind of recruiting tactic is this?

"Hey kids, you don't want to play for Miami. Go read their message boards and then come sign your letter of intent here at Clemson. Trust me. Why consider a school with beaches 10 minutes in every direction when you can just come on down to good ol' Clemson and climb our trees. Go read their message board kids!"

Get real. If this hillbilly is spending valuable recruiting time and film time reading Miami message boards then Clemson will be looking for a new head coach again in only a few years.

By the way, Dabo, how do YOU think YOU got the Clemson job? Remember all of those Clemson fans and boosters and Alumni calling for the head of Tommy Bowden? I certainly do. I work for Greenville County. I'm 45 minutes from the Clemson campus. I'm in contact with officers, lieutenants, sargeants, and magistrates on a daily basis. Many of whom earned degrees from Clemson and I know for a fact that many of them was emailing the president on a daily basis calling for Bowden to be fired immediately. This type of stuff happens at every single college in the country. Does Dabo really believe that by telling kids this that they will run from Miami? If you ask me, the possible firing of Patrick Nix is more of a reason to run to Miami.

What a gutterball.
 
It is true, many on the UM message boards are calling for Nix's head.

Didn't know rival coaches read said boards though.
 
welcome to the world of recruiting. It's a dirty business because football doesn't have an early signing day.

This is one of the reasons Lloyd Carr did not want Les Miles anywhere near the Michigan football program; he was telling recruits that Carr was in bad health (note I like Miles).

In fact, guys like Urban Meyer (another guy I like), Mack Brown(like), Jim Tressel(respect, but he tends to let stars get away with a lot), Rich Rodriguez(obviously like), Bobby Bowden(respect, but not an FSU fan),Nick Saban(liked before he lied about leaving), and Pete Carrol(like) are considered dirty recruiters. You do what you have to do to get the players you want.

Dabo doing than is nothing new, and is far from the worst thing anybody's ever done (Meyer did tell Jevan Sneed that he was recruiting Tebow as a LB, when Tebow was a top 3 QB in his class) so it's no big deal
 
Remember in the mid-90s, coaches (primarily at UF) were telling recruits not to go to Miami, as you'd get murdered down there like Marlin Barnes.

Definitely a cutthroat industry.
 
I know first hand that the recruiting business is a dirty game. I know what goes on. I know that Hurricane fans on message boards are calling for Nix's head. But I've never seen a head coach use this. This is just a poor tactic. Does he really expect to sway kids with this lol. It's a joke.
 
Jcane305....i have yet to hear of that u speak of :) but i did hear that clemson was contacting players that were thinking of committing to carolina....not sure hoe that went down though...

Haha. Not related to your post..but about 90% of my family is from the Cuyahoga Falls/Akron area
 
Patrick Nix will NOT be fired. I think Randy will hold onto him until his (Randy's) job is on the line. He wants to develop some continuity with the QB's and the OC, unlike the Kirby/Kyle years.

I personally don't think Nix is the problem. This is a young team, and Marve has a lot to learn. Jacory seems to do just fine with Nix's playcalling, the problem is he doesn't play the whole game. I think we only lose two games (UF, GT) if Jacory started all year.

To be honest, I haven't heard anything about the future of Patrick Nix. I wouldn't be surprised with either outcome really. But Randy is being very very quiet about this. The only thing he has publically said about the situation is that he expects Patrick to be back next season but he quickly said that he will evaluate the full staff in January. However, I do know that Randy Shannon has spoken to Jimmy Johnson numerous times since the North Carolina State game. What was said? Who knows. Randy ain't saying much.
 
Do you think if he has another bad season, that RS will throw everyone under the bus like Coker did to save himself for another year?
 
Honestly, and I hate to say this about Randy because I like Randy and he's a great guy, but yeah, I think he would. I think he would throw Patrick Nix under the bus and probably Wesley McGriff but he won't touch Bill Young.

What Coker did was unforgiveable. Throwing Art Kehoe under the bus is what really turned the fan base on Larry. Everyone who ever had anything to do with the University loved Art Kehoe. We still do. I heard he's on his way to Tennessee with Lane Kiffin by the way.
