Dale Earnhardt Jr. on Wednesday will announce his intent to move to Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet in 2008, multiple sources with intimate knowledge of the negotiations told ESPN.com Tuesday on condition of anonymity.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. likely won't be Driver 8 anymore, but will he still pilot the Budweiser Chevrolet?

Hendrick Motorsports declined comment, and e-mails and calls sent to Earnhardt's representation were not returned. A news conference was scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday to officially announce the deal.
Kelley Earnhardt Elledge, who has handled contract negotiations for her brother, declined to comment on the report.
There was some speculation that the wheels are already in motion to plant Earnhardt in the No. 5 now driven by Kyle Busch before season's end, but Dale Earnhardt Inc. president Max Siegel, contacted by phone Tuesday, discounted that scenario, saying Earnhardt would remain in the No. 8 through season's end.

I can't wait for the fans reaction

another article just for fun

Cant wait for fan reactions either!! I cant wait to see how quickly all the "its a conspiracy that hendrick/gordon/johnson won the race, nascar fixed it" theories go away now that jr. is a part of the team. Lets be real here folks... when you have the best cars, the best crews, the best drivers, and probably the best owner in stock car racing... you have the best results. that is no conspiracy.

It will be interesting to see how many fans "defect" from the so called red army if this is indeed the announcement junior makes tomorrow and the direction he definately does go.

As much as the junior fans can't stand Jeff Gordon, then I wonder how they will like him as a team mate now!!!

Great move for Junior. And for Rick Hendrick, too, for that matter. It will be interesting to see if Junior, Jimmie and Jeff can all play nice. There's been a real distinction at HMS between the 24 and 48 garage and the 5 and 25 garage (that's a literal translation; they have two separate garages). However, this is a great move for Junior, because he instantly becomes a legitimate championship contender with Hendrick equipment in 2008.

And bullseyeguy, to answer your question, the whole idea behind teams is that the more smart mechanics, good drivers and talented engine builders (and etc.) you have, the better your cars will be, and that knowledge will carryover to the other teams. The drivers, of course, race for themselves on Sundays, but where they can help each other out (without any harm to themselves) with working together on pit stops, drafting, etc., they'll do so.

Most of the fans will follow him... and Gordon will quit getting booed :sidelol::sidelol:

Seriously, even if only 1/4 of his fans follow him... he'll still be the most popular driver in NASCAR.

So do team members share a pit crew? And do teams get a percentage of the members winnings?

Forgive me, but I am completely ignorant when it comes to Nascar...

Most teams don't share garages anyways. The 24, and 48 did because JJ was Gordon's handpicked driver. After the success, the 5 and 25 crews were moved together (When Vickers was called up, so he could work with T Labonte). The teams have had sporadic success, but no where near the level of JJ and Jeffy.

For those wondering why Kyle Busch is getting the boot instead of Mears...

1.Casey is best friends with JJ and Gordon. Whenever JJ and Jeffy enter offseason races, Casey is their teammate (this goes back to when Casey drove the 41)

2.Kyle is a hot head like his brother and has fallen out of favor with a lot of people at HMS.

3.Reportedly, HMS was also getting tired of Kyle's driving style.

Good move for Jr though, since he's now on a team with drivers that have won more than restrictor plate races. Already reported he will either drive the 5, or Mears will be moved to the 5 and Jr will get the 25.

Teams have the same owner(s) and the same headquarters, other than that everything is exclusive to a single car (1 pit crew per car, 1 crew chief per car, etc..). The team supplies driver with engines and cars.

Teams are exclusive to only 1 manufacturer. (Chevy, Dodge, Ford, or Toyota). Chevy teams for example are: Hendricks, Dale Earnhardt Inc, Richard Childress Racing, Ginn Racing, and Joe Gibbs Racing.

Teams share information and resources within their team. For example: Denny Hamlin and Tony Stewart both drive for Joe Gibbs Racing. If Denny Hamlin has a good qualifying run or is good in practice and Tony is not, Denny's car setup may be shared with Tony's crew to make Tony's car better.

Teammates also help each other on the race track, by drafting with their teammates or blocking for their teammates. If a team is running 1st and 2nd, the teammate running 1st may let the teammate in 2nd lead a lap in order to gain 5 bonus points.

I hope this helps you out a little, try watching a few races :D

Not to mention Mears doesn't tear up cars like Busch does.

thus I said tired of Kyle's driving.:D Casey has been in his fair share of wrecks, but Kyle is a reckless driver.

he is also a hot head, not a bone head like his brother, but a hot head.

Junior is a sellout, I was not a fan of his anyway, but to go join the same team as Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson makes me lose all respect for him.

I will now enjoy his wrecks as much as I do Gordon's and the rest of Hendrick's crew.

It wasn't enough that he has rode on his daddys name all these years, now he jumps ship to the current hot racing team, despite the precence of Gordon and Johnson, just to try to finish better than he really is as a driver.

Punk.
