Where Would He Fit: There are no two ways about it: Signing Soliai would signal the Cowboys do, in fact, intend to bump Jay Ratliff out to defensive end in their 3-4, which would both strengthen the interior of the line on running downs and help preserve Ratliff for passing situations. Soliai would play almost exclusively on running downs. While the Cowboys do have a traditional nose tackle on the roster in Josh Brent, he isn't as massive and lacks the experience Soliai has accrued in 31 starts over the last three years.

I'm just posting this because it's a link, but radio and bloggers down here are pretty much expecting Dallas to go after Soliai full-force. They want to bump their current under-sized NT, Ratliff, to defensive end and bring in a true run-stuffer. Anyone expecting Soliai to test the market, find it slow, and come back to Miami at a reduced rate is gonna be in for a rude awakening. If we plan to keep him, it'll need to be before FA opens...

oh well. if they want to spend to much for hm let them. im still not impressed. he played well in a contract year, then disappeared for more than half the season last year.

Funny how that works, we take their garbage, and they take our good players.

Anyways, Soliai was decent but he wasn't special. I would gladly give up Soliai and Langford for Mario.

Starks is still very good and we have Odrick still.

I still think the Jets will go after him since they are not resigning their aging nose tackle. If they can free up the cap space. The Dallas situation makes a lot of sense, they do have the money.

dallas needs to dump their money in that awful aged overrated across the board cb group...absolutely horrid...and start with cutting terrence newmans corpse...as for the jets my understanding is resigning pouha is a priority for them this offseason...but they also have a high end talent like kendrick ellis in house that they used a 3rd rounder on last year...

Letting Solai walk would be a huge mistake IMHO. He is playing good football. He deserves to be paid in line with the other top NT's.

I seriously doubt it unless they do LOTS of cap cutting episodes.

Although I haven't researched it, from what I keep hearing from here, Dallas is SERIOUSLY strapped in regards to the cap.

They will be aggressively looking for new CB's LBers and depth everywhere...but why would they break the bank for Solaia when they already have a pro-bowler in Jay Ratliff playing the NT????? That is his best position. They have moved him around and its been a bad thing for them everytime.

well you never know but seems like a pretty stupid idea. ratliff is a perennial pro bowler at NT why move him to end . Hell go for it dallas. As for the Jets I doubt they sign solai they probably can keep pouha slightly cheaper and they play at a similar level

Apparently they think they have been weak against the run because of Ratliff being undersized. Since his strength is rushing the passer, Rob Ryan would like to slide him over to DE and have a true NT clogging up the run. Apparently Dallas is going into old Jerry Jones mode and planning on being extremely active in FA this year. I bet we see them actively bidding on the top corner as well as Soliai and some LBers. They are in decent shape cap-wise, especially after they release Newman, which will save them approximately 9M...

Dallas has one of the better run defenses in the league at the very least top 10 and to spend big money on another NT to move ratliff to De would be an extreme waste of money but it is Jerry Jones.

That's very true, Locke... Soliai, although it took him time to come around (and that's to be expected given the position he plays) he is a very good 3-4 NT and the problem is that a) we aren't going to run a 3-4, b) Soliai can make boatloads more money going elsewhere with his skillset and c) it's just not worth that kind of cap space for a guy that may or may not be able to utilize his best attributes on the field for us...

And did I mention that he can make boatloads more money elsewhere ??

No prrof he can make more money elsewhere than he could here. Personally I have no problem leaving esp how his agent held us for ransom when we tried to sign him long term. When Wilfork money is not good enough I say take a hike. I dont find him as amazing as some on here. he is a good NT but there are plenty of people I would rather have. Now the problem is none of them will probably be available although I have no problem with Pouha as his replacement I see them as essentially the same player with Paul being younger

I think he'll end up on the Chiefs. They need a NT, and have tons of cap room.
