I see a lot of people are down on Dallas Thomas saying he had a terrible game. But besides the one play where he was put on skates and pushed into the QB, what other bad plays stuck out anyone here? If you have video evidence of him getting dominated consistently please share. I'm not defending him but I saw Albert get beat, Tunsil get beat, Turner get beat etc... and nobody is calling them out.

Because he sucks and has sucked since he got drafted. He shouldn't even be on the team.

Not only did he get rag-dolled into Tannehill on the one pass play, he got jacked on a run play to his side. It isn't about this one preseason game, it is about a continued history of the same level of pathetic play.

To the OP's point, I'm down on the whole group of starter. They sucked royally. Albert got beat twice by Vernon - he got Tannehill killed on both of those plays. James had a holding early. Turner got beat while playing right tackle for a sack. The line sucks. They might be pretty good players but they do not play well together.

I can't understand why everyone thinks that the poor o-line play is a Dallas Thomas issue or a Guard issue. THE ENTIRE UNIT SUCKS AS A WHOLE!!! Philbin, with help from the Front Office, spent 4 years of drafts and Free Agency putting together this line, and what was the final result? A line which was completely dominated by the d-lines in their Division, leading to a 1-5 Division record and being swept by both the Jets and the Bills. The plan should have been to find replacements for all of these guys as soon as last season ended!

Tunsil should be Albert's replacement, so let him start now. (Why not? Miami's going nowhere this year; let the kid get experience at his position!) Albert is an overpaid part-time player who is probably in his last season with the fins, so move him to LG for now. Thomas should have been cut years ago. Pouncey is weak and gets pushed around too often; they were better off with Satele. James is young and possibly salvageable, so maybe he can stay as a back-up. Gase will never be successful if he keeps playing Philbin's o-linemen. (IMO, I don't think he'll ever be successful, but that's a different story.)

I hate to say it, but until I see otherwise, I can't disagree with this.

Nothing Dallas Thomas ever does will ever please the fanbase. Some players become lightning rods and attract their ire. Ted Ginn Jr was lightning rod, as was Daniel Thomas and Jimmy Wilson.
I believe that we have several better guards and the new coaches are doing a thorough and fair assessment. However, even if Dallas had played really well half of FH would still have been calling for his dreadlocked head.

I think to simply pin the failures of this oline over the last few years on Dallas Thomas or poor guard play is lazy and tunnel visony.. (Made up word)

It's much bigger than that. There are breakdowns at different times at various positions. One play its D Thomas, one play its N B Turner or Albert, or Pouncy. It's not all on Thomas.

Now answer me this how often is it those other guys vs. Thomas? How often was/is Albert beaten by his guy during the course of a season compared to Thomas? What about the other players?

I'll wait for your response.

If I remember rightly Vernon had success against Albert in training camp last year so unless it continues against other players I'd not be too concerned about Albert, yet.

It's an accumulation, not a single play in a preseason game. He's been being whipped by the D all of camp too. Go watch the tape of Tunsil in that game, and in camp and then tell me if Thomas deserves the criticism.

Nobody on the line has been other worldly, but nobody else is being thrown around like a slab of meat either to the regular occurrence that he has.

Maybe the others were trying to cover for dallas thomas shortcomings.......Good point anyways.

Daniel Thomas was clearly the best back on show against NYG but you'd never believe it on here.

Dallas Thomas is bad. Not bad enough to deserve all the ire but he's had a lot of rope and when he gets beaten it's really ugly.

Turner is awful also. James I've been a supporter of but I really don't know if he'llever be a top tackle. Pouncey is technically a good center and awesome at the second level but gets no push in the run game and often needs guard help. Douglas is absolutely awful. If you want a draft bust (and God knows enough of us didn't like the pick) he's a poster boy. Albert is not worth his contract and is probably on the decline.

I thought Tunsil was among the few bright spots in the game though. Looked 100% comfortable, enjoying it even.

Other bright spots Bobby McCain, Aikens, Hull, Chris McCain, Pitts, Phillips, Warmsley, Steen.
