ESPN analyst Damien Woody did not make many friends among Miami Dolphins fans earlier this week. Woody, who is not afraid to speak his mind, called the Dolphins a mentally soft team, which sparked some interesting debate on Twitter.
However, Woody also provided very high praise for one of Miami’s Pro Bowl players on Wednesday. During a segment on ESPN's "NFL Live" where Oakland Raiders defensive end Justin Tuck put together the perfect pass-rusher, Miami's Cameron Wake got the nod in the “strength” category, and Woody agreed.
“My time with the Jets, going up against that guy twice a year, that guy made me earn every check,” Woody said of Wake. “He’s probably the toughest pass-rusher that I've ever gone against. He’s strong as an ox, he can bend and do it all. I give a lot of kudos to Cameron Wake.”
Wake is a four-time Pro Bowler with 63 career sacks in six seasons. He recorded 11.5 sacks in 2014, despite constant double teams. Wake’s numbers could increase this year with the Dolphins’ addition of Pro Bowl defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh in the middle of the defense.

Best 4-3 DE in Football!

Hate to correct the great Hoops but Woody was the RT for the Jets at the end of his career and actually did a good job at blocking Wake. Wake wasn't a huge factor in those games from what I can remember.

I hate to disagree with you, but I have to. When an undrafted rookie (Seantrel Henderson) gets the best of you, along with many games last year where Wake was a non-factor, you are not the best 4-3 DE in football. Wake accumulated most of his sacks, qb pressures, and tackles in a handful of games last season. For Wake to be one of the best, if not the best, he needs to be more consistent. With Suh on board, I expect Wake to obviously have a much better season.

As great as Wake supposedly is, he doesn't set the edge well.

And he consistently gets removed from games by physical tackles.

I've believed for a long time that Miami needs to have a backup DE for Wake who is massively physical -- one who can set the edge when needed and wear down opposing OL. Then Wake can come in for a third of the snaps and wreak major havoc.

Well then i stand corrected...imo though woody was always best on the inside...i seem to recall him playing the pivot and being drafted as a center out of bc...wanna say his best days were inside with the patriots

Basically that would be making wake a situational pass rusher...i think youd get more bang for your buck pass rush consistency from him in that role...its not far away anyways...wakes career will extend cause its always in the back pocket to make him a top flight situational rusher...

I agree that Wake gets moved easily at times, but I would have to review if that is because he was double teamed or chipped by a TE and Guard? Even our Great Jason Taylor was not a factor each and every game much less every play. I do expect Wake to have a better season with Suh in the middle and hopefully our LB's/safties will seal the outside running lanes. Is it September YET!!!

Are guys freaking kidding me....I'm not saying Wake is the best but I do know for a fact that NO ONE......and I mean NO ONE gets held and tackled more than Cam Wake!!! I challenge anyone to put on tape and clearly see this guy gets mugged on a regular basis!

My opinion of course won't be everyones but Wake has to be accounted for every single snap by every single team in the nfl and that says something. Next to an every down double team machine like Suh I believe teams will have to respect Wake alot more then they already do!

Couldn't agree more Woody was best on the inside but he wasn't saying about who he played at guard, but from his experience playing the tackle. Of Course I'm sure every Tackle has a different opinion just like each and everyone of us

couldn't agree more. Im not just being a homer, but I have never seen anyone get held as much as wake does and not get the call. I agree that wakes run d is not very good as we all want, but the guy is a monster. wait until he isn't on the team anymore and see what happens. all the guys that don't think he is all that good will be missing him the most.

best I ever faced(held)

I saw the segment they gave wake the strength factor. While he is tough wake has THE fastest 1st step in the game I find myself rewinding plays thinking he was offsides or at least encroachment on almost all his pass rush plays....

LOL who remember joey porter bitching bout cam wake all those years ago when he was getting more snaps on pass rushing downs...
