Dolphins | Team in talks with McIntosh

Jeff Darlington, of the Miami Herald, reports the <A href="http://www.kffl.com/team/22/nfl">Miami Dolphins have initiated talks with pending free agent OT Damion McIntosh on a possible return with the team for 2007. ''We've been in contact with (the Dolphins),'' said Brett Tessler, McIntosh's agent. "I'm hoping things will pick up in the next week, and hopefully we'll be able to get something done. But if not, we'll find out what's available in free agency.''

I won't mind if it's for minimal money and a 1 or 2 year deal. Joe Thomas, despite being "weak" in the bench press, is still going to be picked a lot higher than what we could trade up to in order to get him. And at 9 overall, I still feel Levi Brown is a reach, especially with other more pressing needs to be addressed. There's a good crop of LT's coming into the draft in 2008, Baker, Long, Barry Richardson and Jared Gaither - McIntosh will suffice for another season IMO.

Yup we don't have the cap space to fix this team in one fell swoop. It's going to take some time. McIntosh is likely to be the best available for the money we can spend right now.

Really?????? Like whaa?

The QB position being the first. Daunte's still up in the air, Harrington's likely to get cut, so that's the obvious start. I think McIntosh held his own well enough that finding a dominant C is a bigger priority on the O-line itself. Hadnot seems like he should be moved back to RG. We could use a playmaker in the secondary and at WR, more than burning picks in a trade to get Joe Thomas, or IMO, reaching at 9 overall for Levi Brown.

our team lacks the ability to find talent on the o line....McDougle, B Anderson, LJ Shelton, whoever it is, needs to lose there job. I'd be "OK" to bring him back for 1 year only but as a back up! i wnat to upgrade this line and knowing miami, we will overpay for him.

and if he is expected to compete with LJ for LT then who is our RG? Fonoti? Toledo? James when he returns?

At this point they have no choice.

Their are not any real upgrades available in FA and nothing is guaranteed in the draft.

I like Hadnot, but he's not dominating at the center position as I would like, I like him better at Guard, maybe LG, and leave Shelton at RG, he and Carey carried that side pretty well. If we do bring back McIntosh and he continues to grow at LT, then we just need a dominating Center to complete this OL.

How could anyone with a straight face say WE'RE fine with DMAC another year?

He's had more than enough opportunites to prove himself. He just stinks! He was a free agent LT last year and no one wanted him. Why did we sign Shelton to big money when everyone said he sucked? Because he was better than DMAC THAT'S WHY! LJ was our starting LT that switched to right guard because of injuries and also because he sucked at LT. DMAC has zero ability to handle a speed rusher...zero!

Yes, we have major question marks at QB, but at least there's a possibility that Culpepper or Cleo could do better. With DMAC there is no possibility. Supposedly, Levi Brown blasted out a 5.39 40 and if so, can't reasonably project to LT at the pro level (too slow) \

I'm not saying we draft Brown @ 9 not with those numbers, but DMAC is probably slower and we need help there first and foremost.

I think this is good news depending on the deal. I'm all for getting a LT to anchor the OL in the draft if possible, but it's likely that such a LT wouldn't be a world-beater his first year. As I recall, McIntosh is pretty versatile and could be good depth even if the hypthetical rookie LT is a world beater from day one.

That's good to hear. D-Mac is a valuable OL at least for depth purposes. If we draft a rookie at that spot, we may need to keep him around as insurance.

Good news, get the O-line going, add a few more pieces as well.
