Damion McIntosh: X-Factor?

If Damion McIntosh is ready to play in place of Wade Smith on Sunday, do you think that could be the X-factor in getting us our first win of the season?

Thanks to my DVR, I was able to watch Wade Smith get completely blown by - I'm talking not even getting a finger on the blitzers, and witnessed him take steps straight forward while a linebacker, I think it was a LB, blitzed no more than a foot to the left of him for a blindsided hit on Feeley.

McIntosh is hungry, he wants to play, and he has been recovering very quickly. I haven't seen a whole lot of him, but watching clips during an ESPN thing on rushing, I saw him grabbing guys left and right for LT's good gains. I saw a monster when I saw those clips, and I also saw a bright spot which could save our offensive line, and believe me, I use the term 'offensive line' VERY loosely here.

You've also got to consider Vernon Carey moving to Guard. They would rather play him at Tackle, where they intend on putting him.. But Wannstedt isnt going to be around to see much of Carey's development if that line doesnt do anything.
 
i think D-Mac will definitley give our line a huge boost...the left side of the line will be very solid....but from center to RT there are many ? marks. I say throw Carey in there somewhere...maybe even Hadnot. It can't get any worse....right?
 
Macintosh isn't very good in the first place. Better then St. Clair and Smith, but to hope Mac is an X-factor is true desperation.

Agreed. The guy is not a savior, just a pretty good lineman who run blocks well, but is iffy on pass protection. I guess that's enough for us but to say the guy is going to push the o-line over the hump is just a tad overboard. Still...he's better than what's there now.
 
I agree that McIntosh is good, and MUCH better than Smith, but I think he's a savior only if the offense currently gives less effort because it believes that even its best efforts will be undermined by Smith's poor play. If that's the case, and if THEY believe McIntosh is much better than Smith, you could see a collective surge in effort and intensity by the offense when McIntosh is inserted. If THAT happens, McIntosh is a savior. We'll see....
 
Mc is only an average tackle, no X-factor. Nonetheless, he is better than Wade "The Human Turnstile" Smith. Carey needs to play somewhere. RT, RG, I really don't care where you play him. If he is not an upgrade over either Whitley or St. right now, then he was not worth the first round pick.
 
Mac doesn't have to be a savior or all consuming lineman. We just need a guy who won't let blizters run right by without laying a finger on them, like 90 percent of all lineman out there. A guy like that can't do it all for us, but it will help an awful lot.
 
If Damion is mobile enough to get in front of somebody, he's better than Wade Smith. Because Wade Smith can't get in front of anybody. And when your left tackle is getting beat both outside and inside without blocking anybody, that is how right-handed QBs wind up in ambulances.

Well he played in the last pre-season game.....so we thought he would be ready.
 
What if we made Wade Smith into a G. Do you guys think he would perform better with the center and a tackle next to them. I would imagine it would be some what easier since you dont have to worry about the DL going to the outside and then his main focus would be right in front of him but then you might see alot of holding. I just think wade smith isnt fit for the Tackle position and me need to learn the Guard position all over. THoughts anyone?

Oh yeah and this is after Mcintosh starts at LT.

So we would have

Mcintosh - LT
Jeno James - LG
Mckinney - C
Whitely or Smith RG
Carey or St. Clair RT
 
imo macintosh would be at least as good a pass blocker as smith but his real benefit would be as a run blocker. we might be able to establish enough of a running threat with him and james on the left side that the opposition has to respect the run game and can't just tee off on a pass rush. wade smith is too finesse to play guard for our style of offense, however once mac is starting at lt i can see smith being used as a te in short yardage and goal line.
