This comes one week after being named Special Teams player of the month for November. Carpenter has been money for us as far as making field goals is concerned. With all the close games we've won this season, he's been a very underrated and instrumental part in putting us in position to win a division title this season.

He's been brilliant for this team. Far exceeding my own expectations and burying any worries that releasing Jay Feely was the wrong move.

 I remember none of us thought he had a real shot of beating out Feely. Then when we released Feely, most said that we only kept Carpenter because he wouldn't run his mouth. A couple months later and he's AFC ST POTM, the ST POTW, and looks like he'll be heading to Honolulu to be the AFC pro bowl kicker.

I raise my glass to the UDFA from Helena, Montana.

He's racking up those frequent flyer miles.

Got to feel good for him. Only missing 3 FGs all year, one of which was blocked due to poor blocking, and neither of the FGs he missed were chippies.

Ummmm there is something fishy going on. Carpenter eluded too the fact that he might have a strong following in his home state of Montana. Something tells me these people know how to vote online. Not that he doesn't deserve it but he's not exactly a world beater.

It is refreshing to know we have yet another talented young kicker. We've been blessed with kickers, which is making me start to believe kicking in Miami is pretty damn easy (dirt in-field aside).

I thought Brandon Fields kicked better last sunday than Dan.

do the fans vote on these weekly awards? I didn't think that they did.

also, when was the last time a kicker missed a FG and was named ST player of the week?

 Ya think? I've heard they have CPUs and everything.

with all do respect, I don't think the buzzing Metropoli of Helena,Billings,Butte,Great Falls, and Missoula are enough fan support to get Carpenter more votes than guys like Prater,Gostkowski,Lindell,Vinitieri,Bironas,or Keading.

****Congrats Dan Carpenter****

Also something to consider, when the Patriots won all their Superbowls, they won way more close games, then by blowout, and if not for a great FG kicker, they have a tough time winning even one SB (Tom Brady or not).

We may not be as talented as those Pats teams, but we are playing the same mistake/penalty free games that made them so tough to beat. Miami rarely shoots themselves in the foot, and that forces teams to have to work even harder, this is what made the Pats so tough, and this is what may end up helping us actually see this team becoming a much more dangerous team then anyone expects....especally if Carpenter can continue to get even better (Kickoffs needs to get better).

Surprised.

Because of his gaff on the kickoff, for which Sparano give him a right bollicking for, and for missing a FG.

The guy has been great for us, but how in the hell does he get AFC ST player of the week screwing up on a kickoff and missing a field goal? The 50 yarder was money though. Honestly I think if Sparano didn't give him hell he would have made the other field goal. he is still a rookie and full of nerves. He has a lot of talent though. I think we may see him for years to come.
