Marino is way behind Montana and slightly ahead of Elway in this ranking on rankopedia. Let's move him up the rankings!

Montana was the product of a system, Marino was a system.

- Bill Walsh.

That is bull.Marino,Elway should be 1-2.Motana couldnt hold Marinos jock.#13 only has like 420 TD .Montana has like 273.**** that.I voted and Marino is #1.
Manning has more TD'S than Montana.

Marino has 21,210 yards more than Montana. You Suck #16

Only Marino has 61,361,Favre 57,500,Elway 51,475.........
Motana has 40,551

#13- 420 TD,#4- 414 TD, #7-300 TD......#16-273 TD

MARINO is the standard to beat.Favre has some games to get past him.I hope he doesnt. But,Records are made to be broken.

MARINO WILL ALWAYS BE #1 ON MY BACK.

think about pure passing skills....comparing montana and marino in that category is like comparing night and day. marino is the best passer the game has ever seen.

No one did more with what he had then Marino, period. Played with a ****ty defense and running game for the vast majority of his career, yet the phins only had 1 losing season with him at the helm. And he put up record numbers with teams knowing Miami would always pass. Best pure passer ever, bar none. Marino ftw!

i hate this debate marino is clearly the #1 and than the rest has the best numbers ever montana had a team marino had well marino, duper and clayton if marino had what brady, montana, young had i bet it wouldnt be an issue

People always seem to write very badly about Joe Montana here. It's hardly as if the guy was awful. That old Bill Walsh quote keeps getting dredged up again and again. Didn't Montana and Walsh have a falling out at one point? Was it afterwards when Walsh said something where he egotistically took all the credit (For his system) for Montana's success? If so, someone talking badly about someone he doesn't like whilst saying how brilliant he is himself has to be taken at less than face value.

From the games I saw of Montana's he was pretty bloody good. None of this is to take away from Marino whatsoever please let me point out. I don't think there's any doubt Marino was a superior passer to Montana but it's hardly like Montana had the success he did as a result of being useless. Instead of putting him down, doesn't it make more sense to say Montana was a high quality QB and Marino was better? If people don't rate Montana as having been any good and public opinion has him rated higher than Marino, that's not very good, is it?
It doesn't help an argument for Marino simply to slate his peers.
Marino wasn't undeniably one of the best QBs (Many would say THE best) by default. Some of his competition were fantastic players but Marino was more fantastic.
