Do you guys remember when Dan Marino was offered to be GM and he said yes, after one or two days, he decided not to take that position, I believe it was 2 or 3 years ago... anyone knows why???

because hes dan marino and hell do what he wants to.

I beieve he had the position more like 1 week or 2 and he said no because he knew DW was driving the team to the ground

Marino was named Vice President of Football Operations the same day Rick Spielman was promoted to GM.

Marino said he quit because he originally hadn't thought it thru and realized he'd be away from his family a lot. I remember him saying at his introductory press conference that he'd gotten the call from Wayne at 11 am. The PC was at something like 4:30 that day. So it was quick.

And he would have been working a whole lot more for a whole lot less money.

But he definitely had to have seen the dysfunction that was our organization. And it had to have spooked him.

His tenure was 22 days.

I didnt think it was a GM position... I thought it was like President or something... basicly, right under Wayne...

he knew that he could say what he feels but he also knew that what ever he says wouldnt mean squat. Well working for cbs and hbo making a gillion dollars talking and traveling 2 days a week to putting in 14 15 hours a day ...easy decision. He probably wanted to get rid of DW and he couldnt.

He works just a few days a week on CBS. He is very good at his job with CBS - he has the looks, he is sharp, he is likeable and he is DAN MARINO. He makes much more money on CBS than he would have with the Dolphins. As you stated, the decision was easy.

I would like for him to be apart of the organization he is aqua and orange for life. When we win a SB in a year or 2 I would like for him to be apart of the team.

He quit b/c he realized he'd be working 3 times as many hours for about a third of the pay. I remember a quote from one of the beat reporters. They spoke to Marino at the Senior Bowl ( it was about a week into his hiring) Marino was asked how it was going and he responded "my a** is cold". It's not nearly as comfortable sitting on bleachers in Mobile at 7 am when you're used to riding in a limo to your network job.

It had nothing to do with Wanny or any false promises about the position.

You are right. It had nothng to do with Wanny. In fact, Marino was going to report directly to Huizenga.

I dont think his decision was based on Wanny being their but I do believe he looked at everything and at the time the organization was going in the wrong direction. Main reason family and a easier job with cbs and hbo. Add it all together it was a easier decision. Plus Marino and his Wife probably had a long conversation.

I will tell you why:

1. Dan Marino is married and has a boatload of kids...being an NFL GM requires you to put in 15 hour days.....he wants to spend more time raising his kids.

2. CBS offers him a weekend analyst job where he makes as much as a GM (between $1-$2 million). Which would you chose,,,,,GM or Football analyst?
