Dan Marino NOT in ESPN`s top 10

I've said it before and I'll say it again...If you had a team with absolutely no running game and no defense, and you could take any QB in the history of the game, in their prime, to carry that team, who would it be? I'm taking a 25 year old Dan Marino and not looking back!

Elway carried the Broncos to 3 Super Bowl appearances in the 80's with no running game and average defenses.

And the fact of the matter is that Elway lead the Broncos to 5 Super Bowl appearances, Marino lead the Dolphins to 1. You can argue all you want about what if Marino had 5 Super Bowl appearances he would've won 3+, but he didn't, the Dolphins had 1 Super Bowl appearance with him at the helm.

Actually, i don't. I think dan was the best passer of the football of all time. I think that's indisputable. There are so many more variables that go into "QB" -- yes SBs included -- that it makes it a far more subjective topic. That's why lists that attempt to rate QBs as a whole make no sense.

Exactly, it is all subjective and relative.

I don't think Marino was the best QB ever, however I believe he was the greatest pure passing QB to ever step on the field.

He was the type of QB who could just sit there and tell you, " Hey this is a bomb to Clayton" and he would still burn you deep to Clayton. The only other guys that could consistantly beat you WHEN U KNEW WHAT HE WAS GONNA DO was Brett Favre.

I think that is the point. No matter what u did u couldn't stop Marino. The only one who even comes close in that aspect is Peyton MANNing. Every other QB ob that list at some point or another u could stop.

Mueller frickin put 6 players ahead of Marino? What a joke. Sammy Baugh wasn't 1/2 the player Marino was

Sammy Baugh was TWICE the player Marino was. He just didn't pass as good.

It just goes to show what not winning a SB did to his overall rating. If he had 2 SB rings then I think he'd be top 5.

If Marino won a couple of Super Bowls he'd be the #1 player of
all time undisputed. The jerks who won't give him his due
only use that as their bash point as they have nothing else.

they did the same polls before hall of fame inductions marino was in top 5. how quickly they forget.

Elway had the 3 amigos and a running game much better then
Marino ever had. He was a horse faced loser.

Not really true. Elway's 1989 team that lost 55-10 to SF had the NFL's No. 1 defense and 6th best running game. His 1987 team that lost 42-10 to Washington had the league's 7th best defense and 12th best running game. Marino never had a top 15 running game in his entire career and had only 2-3 top 15 defenses.

Elway's 1986 team was pretty mediocre on D and in the runnning game, but not as weak in those areas as Marino's 1994 team.

Just noticed this.

Due to Jerry Rice`s retirement, they posted there top 10 of all time. Rice was number 2. Jim Brown was number 1.

Here is the list
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2152421

Marino is 13th well behind Montana and Elway.

Elway???

..You know what seperates Elway and Marino???? Terrell Davis...If Elway woulda been a Dolphin trust me he would have no rings either!! I hat this topic because Football is the ultimate team sport and Dan suffered because of the lack of skill around him.......Davis transfered Elway from a good QB..to some saying the best ever...and thats ridiculous....

Why would Elway not be considered a better QB he went to how many SB's thats got to count for something

Why? Trent Dilfer could have gone to multiple SBs if he'd stayed with the Ravens, do you think he's a great QB? It still takes 22 guys + ST'ers to play a football game. To rate one player based on the accomplishments (or lack thereof) of this teammates is silly.

Neither is Barry or Deion, well opinions are like *******s.

Sammy Baugh?!?! Are you kidding me? :(

Peter King is responsible for influencing people putting these" old timers" in the top ten of all-time as of late. These guys were great in their era, but were not the greatest of all-time. Baugh was great... but his skill, and knowledge of the game arent even on the same field as Marino. Marino belongs in the top 5 of all-time any position period. Baugh belongs in the top 25 of all-time...not in the top 10.

Eric Dickerson? Dan Marino? Mean Joe Greene? Tony Dorsett? Barry Sanders?
This list is lacking, not to mention OJ was left off. Just because he killed someone doesn't mean he wasn't great. I'm not saying that the people I listed are top ten for sure, but cases can be made for each of them.
