Suck for Luck fever has struck the Miami Dolphins fan base in part because the team hasn't had a decent pigskin slinger since Dan Marino. Yeah, well, Marino thinks purposely tanking for the number one pick in the next NFL draft is "ridiculous." Perhaps he has a point. He was far from a number one pick himself.Marino was on Joe Rose's show on WQAM this morning and was asked about the campaign."You got to win games," Marino replied. "That's what your job is -- that's the franchise. You don't go out there trying to lose games. That's just ridiculous. If that does happen, then you look at who's the best possible player."Usually, if you can get a franchise-type quarterback that's going to be around for ten years, that's probably what direction you should go," he continued. "But you're not going to know that for quite awhile, and you might not even know Andrew Luck -- what's going to happen with him during the season."The man does have a point. Who really knows if Luck would pan out or if he'll remain healthy. For every quality QB who's selected first overall, like a Manning or an Elway, there's also a JaMarcus Russel and a Tim Couch. Then there's your surprise superstars like Brett Favre and Tom Brady who weren't selected anywhere near the first round.http://blogs.miaminewtimes.com/riptide/2011/10/dan_marino_on_suck_for_luck_th.php

In first with :

"oh I don't care that there was never a QB who wanted to win more, berated his line and receivers on the field, and took losing hard... it's just something he has to say.. don't read too much into it cause it's not the way we know he really feels."

I think if theres one guy who wants to see miami return to relevance, it would be dan marino... that being said... I think what he meant deep down is....

i hope like hell we get andrew luck, so this ****ing franchise can win some games and fill some seats.

Dan - No offense, but until you submit your proposal for getting the Miami Dolphins a franchise quarterback, this is the best option.

Marino shut the **** up, hop in the bandwagon or I'll kick your ***.

Guys, I don't think you understood what Marino is saying.

Dan is saying the -PLAYERS- can't go out there and tank games. That would be ridiculous. They are competitors and this is their job. They go through training camp, OTA's, practices, busting their butts so they can't tank. Dan is telling you his opinion from a player's perspective.

HOWEVER, you do notice that Dan agrees, that IF we lose games Dan says "if that does happen" then yeah you should go the direction of a QB.

Dan just can't get on board with players tanking. Duh.

Couldn't agree more with Dan... Im a dolphins fan for life will always be i hate to see them fail our fan base is the worst people cheering for us to suck is the dumbest thing i have ever heard i pay my money to go to kansas city to watch them win and jerseys and such i hope we win out and get a shot at RG3 or a Chase Keenum in the middle to late first round or second... I agree we need new mangement coach GM everything else i stand behind the players

Why not suck for Luck when we've already sucked for Fiedler, Huard, Lucas, Griese, Feeley, Frerotte, Rosenfels, Culpepper, Harrington, Green, Lemon, Beck, Pennington, Henne, White, Thigpen, and Moore?

I dont care what Marino or anyone else says. Franchises dont experience sustained success by repeatedly trotting out QBs passed up by every other NFL teams or picked up from the trash heap.

Favre was selected 33rd overall. I'd say that is "near" the first round. If you're gonna preach like some kind of authority on the subject, at least get your facts straight.

Yea so the patriots got a 1 in a million qb in the 6th round, I suppose we fans should hold out for those odds. Skimming the value bin was worked out so well for us in the past. Want to make a list of the failed 2nd-7th round qb's? Bet it's a lot longer than Russell and couch. Maybe it would occupy enough of your time from prevent you from adding such insightful threads as this to our discussion.

When people compare Luck to prospects who were never in his league like Leaf, Jamarcus, and Couch, that's how you know they know nothing about football and should take up another sport.
