Dan Marino's thoughts on RGIII & Trade Up

I dont know if RGIII is worth that but i agree on Marinos point.
If you feel that you have your guy then you go and make that trade.
A first and third is not that bad. Wonder if indie would trade there pick.

Indy is drafting Luck. It's pretty clear at this point. They will not be paying Manning 28mm bonus in March, so he will likely be cut. Saw a report on ESPN 10 minutes ago, and Manning still has no idea if he will be ready to test his health by March which is close to 2 years since his first neck surgery and will be 7 months after his last surgery.

I assume someone will guarantee him something significant, but IMO it's not worth a huge dollar gamble given the lack of progress in his health. Even if doctors give him a clean bill of health, how has the atrophy of his muscles and nerve damage affected his physical ability? How will he hold up to getting hit by 300 pound men. I just don't see it as a viable gamble at this point unless he wants to take something incentive based.

Acquiring picks doesn't mean anything if you aren't using them to draft who you really want. In other words, if you want a QB real bad and have the faith and ability to move up and select RG III or Luck, then do it.

do we really think Joe wants to give away pedigree picks so as to handcuff himself? the way to the top is by acquiring picks, not the opposite.

Not in all instances. The Giants, going for their second Super Bowl in a couple years, certainly didn't do it that way. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have their franchise QB prospect fall into their lap, like Philbin's previous stint with the Packers.

sign manning but make sure you draft weeden in the second round. that gives you peyton for 2-3 years and weeden 5 years.. i'll take 8 years of great quarterback play!

Everyone says two 1st rounders as if you're actually giving up two 1st rounders. It's one 1st rounder and a 3rd. The other 1st rounder you're swapping with the other team.

Out of curiosity, why would the 2nd overall pick only require two 1's and a 3rd pick? Falcons gave up two 1's a 2nd, and two 4ths for the 6th overall pick. I know they didnt have a top 10 pick but still, seems like a lot more.
That's the difference. The Falcons traded up about 20 spots. You have to pay a lot more for that

You're essentially only losing a 1st and a 3rd in next year's draft.

Personally I'd take Flynn, stay put and draft bpa. If that's a lineman so be it. But if it's also a WR like Blackmon, you get the man.

I trust Marino's QB judgement. He is the prototype NFL pocket passer.
By chance, I met Marino at Markham Park target range years ago during his playing days. Being 6'5" myself, I was surprised to see how tall he was(6'5"). He was really cool and talked to me and friend for a couple of minutes before heading over to the police range.
As much as I like RGIII as a player, I would rather build the team with draft picks instead of trading them.
We need to sign Flynn to compete with Matt Moore. If that happens, I will not be disappointed.
If RGIII should somehow drop to 8/9, we should take him in a heartbeat. It won't happen though.

I think Blackmon would be a great 1st pick. We really need a game changer across from Marshall.

Were going to have to give up a lot to get him since it sounds like we could have Daniel Snyder, whose known to give up draft picks trying to get him and Cleveland has 2 first round picks and will probably have interest in him. This war of words between Fisher and Ross may not help when we start talking to him about a trade.
