just put forth the speculation (around 1:15) that Culpepper could miss the entire season...

Don't shoot the messenger...I am just relaying the information...I believe he is referring to the following link.

http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/news/special_packages/columnists/14382736.htm

He also asked what Dolphins fans would think of the trade if he was out for the year. So I am putting that question out to you.

Again, don't shoot the messenger.

Hmm. Ya know. THat would make sense with Joey feeling Miami had the better situation for him. He said Carlson would be back as the #1 but he had a better opportunity to play in Miami. I found that interesting when I read it. Maybe he knows something we don't, feels he will start a few games at least and wants to come here because of that?

Addressing your hypothetical, if he is out for the entire year it is an awful trade since we are trying to win now. Having said that I dont think that we would have made the trade if we thought he would be out the year - I think he plays week 1.

I don't want Culpepper playing until he's healthy.....

Even if that means him sitting out the entire 2006 season. It wouldn't bother me one bit. I'd rather let him sit, then start him before he's ready. We'll be fine on offense with Harrington, and the running game we have in place....

Besides, it's only April. How is Dan Patrick going to release information when he doesn't even know how Culpepper's progress is coming???....There's still five months of rehab to be done, and alot can change between now and then...

PHINZ RULE!!!

If Culpepper was a DB, WR, or RB it would be possible, but he's not. He may not have 100% of his mobility back next season, but he should still be able to start.

I don't understand how Palmer could be ready before Culpepper. Palmer's injury seemed alot more severe and happened months after Culpepper's. Unfortunately, I would not be surprised if this is true. I know Saban is the type to take every precaution to make sure he is 110% before he sees the field.

Question is, why would a Minnesota paper have this written in it rather then The Herald or Sun Sentinel? Bad blood? Poor Childress

NOBODY knows at this point. We will be hearing this sort of speculation until September though, so get used to it.

It's still a good trade. I look at it like this, had we not traded for Pepper and somehow got into a position to draft Cutler or Young they wouldn't start this year anyway. Even if they did start, they'd probably play worse than Joey Harrington or even Frerotte for that matter. Joey's had 4 years in the NFL, and while I don't think he'll ever live up to #3 overall...sometimes a change of scenery makes all the difference in the world.

I'm really not surprised these reports are starting to surface. Pepper had a really nasty injury. Right from the get go it was a minimum "1 year recovery" and that's not even accurate because he tore all 3 liggys. I hope Harrington plays well enough that Saban won't have to contemplate bringing Pepper back early.

It's a great trade regardless. As i've said before. We gave up a second round pick for a Pro Bowl Quarterback. Now, think a second, most of the threads on this board called for Nick to choose Croyle in the second, Whitehurst in the second, or even Cutler with #16 if he's there. Let any of them sit behind Gus for a season and learn the offense and then hopefully be ready to take over as the new young Fins' gunslinger starting in 2007. Instead of getting Croyle or Whitehurst in the second round, we in turn pretty must can say that with the 51st pick in the NFL draft, the Miami Dolphins select, Daunte Culpepper, Quarterback, University of Central Florida. Oh yeah, a slight catch, he's already an NFL Probowler and near NFL MVP winner. So, if he can't play until 2007, which personally I don't think is going to happen, but, it's no different than getting Croyle or Whitehurst with our 2nd round pick and having them sit for a year to learn.. In fact, it's only difference is that Daunte is proven and that any of us would take Pep any day of the week over the others previously mentioned.

Yes, you have to consider the source...

but until anyone says otherwise clearly these rumors are going to keep coming out.

Just for argument sake...if he was out for the year...would you still do the deal?

To the 34's

I see your logic on Culpepper and I guess I would still make the trade as well...but it would scare me that he would be turning 30 and wouldn't have played in basically 2 years...

Boy, if Harrington could turn it around it sure would be more comforting.

I think Harrington will do fine. His career stats aren't too far off from what Frerotte did for us last year. IMO, the X factor will be Ricky Williams. If we can pound that rock all game with fresh legs and keep Joey in 3rd and short situations....we'll be real tough to beat.
