Do you guys think saban overpayed for this guy? I mean, he'll be sharing downs with Traylor so he wont even be on the feild all the time.

But I still really like the pickup. When he is on the feild, he's a force to be reckoned with IMO

Good pickup or not?

it was a 3 year contract for about 6.3 mill
yep

[Sun-Sentinel] According to Alex Marvez, a source said the Dolphins signed defensive tackle Dan Wilkinson to a three-year, $6.31 million contract. Wilkinson received a $500,000 signing bonus when joining the team Monday and will earn $810,000 in base salary in 2006.

Wilkinson's base salary jumps to $2 million in 2007 and $2.5 million in 2008. He also is due a $500,000 roster bonus in the 2008 offseason.

The contract's structure would seemingly indicate the Dolphins are looking at Wilkinson as a one-year fix for their aging defensive line. Wilkinson, though, said Monday that he isn't approaching his signing as a short-term situation.

"This feels like I'm 22 again," said Wilkinson, 33. "Fortunately, I've been very healthy throughout my career. I'm looking forward to getting going."

It's unknown whether Wilkinson will play Saturday night at Tampa Bay.

I think it's a reasonable sum of money for a player of his caliber. Remember, he'll be rotating with Traylor this year, but Keith is almost 38. He's almost surely gone at the end of the season, so having Big Daddy around long term will be a stabilizing force so we don't have to pin our hopes on a bunch of 7th rounders to step up.

Not a bad contract... 2 mil a season.... for a proven bid guy.. Id pay it.. i have a bigger problem paying unproven rookies stupid amounts of money.

2 million per is not overpaying for a guy of his caliber. Besides, the contract is a bit backloaded, so he may not even see a decent amount of that if he isn't with us in the coming years.

Contracts fine for a veteran considering how much the salary cap is now. Chances are Big Daddy will end up playing about 30% of snaps and is a cushion if Traylor goes down again (which forced a lot of changes last time).
