daniel thomas...panthers game tale of the tape

2 things.
1. So at this point we aren't gonna cut him for LJ? LOL.
2. Do you think this running tall, pad issue is something the coaching staff is attempting to improve?

Ok maybe 3 things...
3. Have you noticed a difference in regards to his pad level vs. His college tape?

i would say to #2...i sure hope so...its important...to #3...if there's been any difference i think its been negligible...but i'm pretty much only got to go on around 15 carries i guess now...the goalline stuff and short yardage is where that upright style will hinder us the most...til he improves it

the thing that at least to me stood out as the biggest difference between college and the pros again only going off one games snaps is thomas showed me more leg drive when contacted...i didn't see him dragging guys for yards after contact on college tape...he looked a little soft to me on college tape in that regard...i thought he'd be a guy who takes contact and goes down almost immediately at this level...definitely not what i saw in the panthers game..his legs did not go dead after contact

well that and the pass pro...i didn't expect him to show so well in that regard so soon...

Fun read as always hoosh. I've watched the game at least 3 times and DT looked more than solid to me. So much for Rotoworld and Omar saying Miami is happy with DT. I mean I get why the Bostn homers at Rotoworld would say that, but I don't understand Omar's motivation for saying it (not that Omar is a font of creditibility). Is DT underperforming in practice?

Omar is a moron with an agenda, thats about it.

for a guy who's only played rb for a few years now...d thomas is awfully naturally gifted...i know that

And for all of those who were on Ingram's jock strap, DT is putting up pretty identical numbers to him, not to mention that the others drafted in front of him are now injured. He is now the 2nd best rookie back and with the depth in the Saints backfield DT will have a better year and more impact.

But I bet NO fans are ecstatic about having Ingram and half or fans think DT is getting replaced by Johnson :bobdole:

He got better pretty much with every carry and will keep getting better as the game slows down for him. I think he will be a very good back for this team.

Hoops, what type of numbers do you see Thomas putting up this year?

depends on carries and what the guys do up front between the tackles...if he can stay healthy i think he's got a solid shot at 800 yards and say 6-8 rushing tds...he'll play...if he keeps showing well in pass pro he'll play a lot...of course if he starts putting the ball on the carpet he'll sit...sparanos not gonna roll with that

but if bush really is gonna be a guy we give the ball 15 times a game as a runner its gonna impact thomas big time...i just don't see us being able to sustain anything like that with bush...i think 10 carries a game there is too dicey...especially inside but we'll see...i think we're playin with fire there

d thomas to me may not break a lot of big gainers but he's not gonna take a lot of losses either...he's decisive and gets north and south...one cut and lets go

It may be playing with fire, but it sure looks like that is what we are going to do. Also, just based off what Ive seen, I think he can handle a feature back load the way we want him to. Not no 20 carries a game but I think Bush gets about 12-15 carries a game plus some receptions..hopefully he can withstand that. I also see him getting more touches at the beg. of the year as we ease in Thomas, then seeing Thomas become more and more involved. Bush just needs to be smart about how he finishes his plays. As far as DT goes, I agree on what you think for his production. I was thinking anywhere from 700-900 yds with a decent ypc. Touchdowns are tough for me to predict, he needs to get better in goaline if he wants those redzone touches. I think he can though.

agreed...12-15 carries a game with bush though...ehhh....i think its a bad recipe...if we do that and he suits up in 12 games i'll be surprised...

I don't always agree with hoops, but I do know that his evaluations won't be clouded by personal bias.

thats true...i aim to call a spade a spade when i evaluate players on tape...but its not always gonna be rainbows and lollipops...i don't sugarcoat anything...i've got murtha next and something tells me i'm gonna see some things i don't like there on the edge...but we'll see...
