Daniel Thomas: Rookie year was “very disappointing”

Maybe he'll bounce back, maybe he won't. I'd say the chances are better that he gets added to the second-round scrap heap that's been building since 2007-- Beck, Henne, White, now maybe Thomas.

If he does bust, I don't know how that's not a strike against Ireland considering that he not only drafted him, but traded up to get him.

He was held out of game 1 because of his hamstring(which by the way was a problem going back to his senior bowl)

MORE HAMMY PROBLEMS...He then ran for 3 yards per carry for the rest of the season

Whats even more comical is how many times on rotoworld
week after week the report on Thomas was limited practice

Hopefully Daniel Thomas doesn't put more miles on his sideline bicycle
than Toledo and Alba did

Is it really fair to talk about second round bust and leave Merling, and Kia Misi off of the scrap heap?

Let's not forget Merling...he was another 2008 2nd round bust. As far as I'm concerned, Sean Smith isn't much better...This guy is Jason Allen part II; always looking like he is going to break out, but never does.

I was gonna say Smith! But then Dansby told me the kid is gonna impress some people this year ;-). Speaking of Karlos isn't it about the time of year he starts telling anyone with a microphone we are gonna surprise so people just you wait?
 
Daniel Thomas when he was healthy played very well. Those who say otherwise are uninformed.
The problems with DT go back to Sparano and the training staff.
Because of the lockout there were no OTA's. Sparano did a VERY POOR job of conditioning the team during the short TC and that was evident on opening night. Several other players also fought through hamstring injuries during the early part of the year. Hamstring injuries are to some degree caused by poor conditioning.
When DT did play he would have a good game and then re aggravate the hamstring. It became a nagging problem most of the yr. This is NOT an unusual occurrence (Andre Johnson missed half the season with a nagging hamstring injury).
Sparano and the training staff did not manage DT's injury well. They continually rushed him back instead of giving him a few weeks off to fully heal. We haven't seen what DT can really do and I wish some of his critics would just shut up already and show some patience. It is evident that his harshest critics were against the Phins trading up for him and are now showing a bias against him. They will marginalize any of his successes and magnify his failures just to justify their narratives.
 
Best case scenario is that bush has another good season and we trade him for a 3rd round pick. Then Thomas gets healthy and Lamar miller becomes our #1 guy with Thomas as the #2. Lamar miller is without question the most talented back that we have.

From what I saw, when there was no hole for DT, he could not gain positive yardage. Even more troubling is that Bush ran for over 1000 yards and a 5 YPC average with the same oline. He looks like he will be joining Sparano next August. He doesn't fit anymore IMHO.
 
He had some good moments last season, I'll reserve my judgement on Thomas after this season. I will say that I was not a fan of giving up so many picks pick to get him.

I think best case scenario is Bush stays healthy and continues to look like a poor man's Barry sanders, as he did when he was given carries. He is our most talented back, more so than miller. We should try to sign him
 
DT looked so average last year - I hope it was due to his injuries because this guy was a non-factor at the goal line. So now he's 242? I would love to see him bang this year but I just don't think he'll get that many touches. Solid back-up potential though.

He seems very Kareem Abdul Jabbar-ish or JJ Johnson-like skill wise IMO.
 
I agree that he runs like JJ Johnson. Good comparison. He has zero explosion on his first cut(hesitation). By the time he gets moving, the defense is on him.
I just don't see anything extraordinary about him. I don't buy the " oh he had injuries theory"
Now that he is 245, I believe he will be a slower and more injury prone version. I think he would be most effective as a receiving back at 220. As far as carrying the ball, I would rather have Bush, Miller, or Slayton. All of those guys are quicker, more elusive and arguably more powerful.
I just don't see a spot for him on the team
 
Whoever says Thomas doesn't have explosion on his first cut is not seeing right. The enticing thing about Thomas is that he explodes off his first cut. He's a beast within the one-cut scheme. We ran it a couple times to perfection last season, most notably against the Texans. He was one-cutting and bursting through holes.

We gave up on Jason Allen too early. As soon as he leaves and goes to Houston he comes up with 7 Interceptions in 23 starts.
And helps Houston make the playoffs for the 1st time ever.
