DAVIE · Cornerback Travis Daniels and rookie safety Jason Allen were expected to start in the Dolphins' revamped secondary for Thursday's season-opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"Expectations'' is a word that coach Nick Saban has little use for, though.

Daniels, who stepped in for traded Pro Bowl cornerback Patrick Surtain to start 14 games in his rookie season last year, has missed all four exhibition games with a sprained ankle. Daniels returned to practice this week but was listed as questionable on the injury report, meaning he has a 50 percent chance of playing.

jason allen held out too long, so maybe he is in the doghouse

If he is in the doghouse, which I have no clue, it's because he hasn't made the quick adjustments and learned the defense as fast as he'd (Saban) would like.

This stinks about Travis. I like Travis. He tackles well. I thought Andre Goodman earned to start in his absence however. I'm still not sold on Eddie Jackson at the nickel spot.

well im confident in Goodman and i expect we won't be using the nickle that much this week.

whenver i saw jackson in, i saw howard play. he got burned almost every time he was on a guy. why is there a howard still around

daniels started 14 games last year, the most by a dolphins secondary rookie since 1988 when jarvis williams started 16 games, do you think allen a first rounder will match daniels in starts who was a 4th round pick?

That was probably the most misinformed statement of the day. Two things, the first is the reason he played less than stellar this preseason is because he was asked to play two different positions. Second, he isn't in the doghouse, if he were Saban wouldn't have apologized to him for making him play two different positions during training camp last week.

you are right about the sethdaddy post but it was known that allen was going to be tried at different positions at the time he was drafted, no big surprise but he decided to hold out and screw up sabans evaluation of him and thats more than likely the reason he's got his tail between his legs.

I doubt it - Ronnie Brown held out about 2 weeks longer.

He's still learning, but I'd predict between weeks 3-5 when he enters the line-up.
