I have to admit that I haven't followed Darius Butler's progress in New England, although I've heard a few people say he's a horrible tackler and nothing special in coverage. That being said, I was a huge fan of his coming out of college. Aside from the obvious asset in giving us inside info on the Patriots, does anyone think he'd be a long term upgrade over Bennie Sapp? I'd say it's worth a gamble!

I think Miami will take a look, but lets not kid ourselves, he has been terrible in New England. The Fins did show plenty of interest in him back in 2009 so anything is possible.

Gotta give Ireland credit on this one. He picked Vontae over Butler, and he looks like a genius now...

Nah, I personally don't think so. I am happy with our secondary at this point.

I rather them spend no more effort trying to fix positions that are good to go and rather spend time fixing the OL.

Sapp might be better, but Butler is better than Carroll.

good god man...do you guys not watch teams other than your own...this guy makes sean smith look like ray lewis in the tackling department...no freaking way...

as if it wasn't a big enough red flag when this skirt wouldn't participate in the bench at the combine...

That's true. As critical as I've been of Ireland, I thought that Butler would be the better pro player over Vontae. However that would be awesome if we signed him and he turned his career around here! :D

Former first round pick is atleast worth a workout.. Just because he failed in one system doesn't mean he'd fail in ours..

Nope, bro. As I said, I didn't watch many Patriots games last year. Could it hurt having him on the roster more than having Austin Spitler?

you need a sure tackling guy as your nickle cb otherwise you end up with the little quick twitch slot guys etc scampering in your secondary for yards after the catch...benny sapp is a damn good tackling cb...darius butler shuns contact and isn't a secure tackler...butlers got better tools than sapp...but he's too soft...

as for is he more worth a roster spot than austin spitler...probably cause butler would at least be around the ball once in a while...

Excellent point.

Butler is headed to the Panthers.

good he can see up close and personal what a downhill running game looks like cause with that d front in carolina they're gonna be charging downhill at him all game long...

Moot point. He won't clear waivers. I don't think he is better than any corner on our roster though. Can't tackle nor cover...which is two things you have to do as a CB.
