Darlington explaining more on Aponte & the good opportunity the new GM has

Dude...can you read?

Aponte is on the business side. She handles the money., No money no players period.
WTF is wrong with you? Don't you get the Dolphins structure.

And I never said that Howie is a czar. He has one. It is Tom Donahue he is the adviser to Howie....and Howie advises Chip on players and Chip makes the final decision.

A czar in the NFL is in an advisory/mentor position.
We are not in friggin old Russia where a czar is the political leader.
Is it that hard to understand?????

The business side of the team is responsible for marketing and generating revenue as well as the back office operations to ensure the financials are in order and the team is making money. I don't think the capologist is technically on the business side and typically reports into the GM. Her title is currently executive vice president of football administration which I would think puts her more on the football side.

Hypothetically, if Eric DeCosta told you as the owner...I will come as long as you jettison Dawn Aponte...you would tell him "no"? Unreal.

Why would he say that? She is responsible for admin and he would be responsible for personnel. They wouldn't have overlapping duties. To go into a job making demands like this based of off Armando's hearsay is just foolish.

IF the guy I want, wanted her out...she is gone. Easy enough.

If some wannabe exec was interviewing for a job and he demanded that I fire a manager because of what some 3rd party beat-writer wrote in an opinion blog, I would point to the door and tell him to GTFO

Anyways, that''s exactly what happened to Ireland. He demanded Aponte be fired, and now he's unemployed.

It was a hypothetical of the lengths I would go to get talent in the FO.

I disagree with Darlington. Allow the GM to build the franchise with people he wants. If you can get a DeCosta or Gamble, allow them to have the keys, kitchen sink, bath water etc. I would not allow anyone...VP, HC, QB etc. get in they way of a great personnel guy.

This is a weird way of you saying you want Philbin gone.

The press and that cl0wn in particular hold a lot of sway with other media organizations and with fans

but with professionals who actually KNOW about those jobs and how those jobs function, and who have REAL contacts inside NFL teams

I seriously doubt he does. His perpetual slime campaign against the Dolphins is not even on their radar screens.

the new gm will have to stop short on contracts. that means a "young up and comer" gets no experience in this regard.

Any and all complaints are now owned by Dawn when it comes to players contracts.

It was real nice of Dawn and the media to let the notion that Jeff Ireland was responsible for over/under spending. That was a great power move.

My question is how is this good for the players and agents coming here? They would like to talk to a football guy as well as the contract. They discuss many things before agreeing to money.

Maybe a little more "jack" might have kept Jake Wrong and filled arguably our biggest hole for a large part of the season. Is that the Dawn? We did try to re-sign him.

You are correct. I did not make myself clear enough. When I wrote business side I meant the financial aspect of the football operations. I was trying to separate the personnel part from the money part for Hayden as much as possible. If I would have thrown anything in there about football operations in connection with Aponte he would have gone over the cliff again.

But you are correct: the business side is different from football operations.

If youd trade your potential franchise quarterback for a general manager, you are out of your mind. Competent Gm's are available every single year. Franchise quarterbacks are much harder to find.

Final say! Jeff Ireland fought for it, Jeff Ireland got it. Final say, thus its his fault!

And players didnt want to come here under Ireland, which is one of the reasons why we lead the league in grievances filed against a team. Worst case scenario? Everything stays the same as it was.

Ireland had full control of personnel and team decisions. The crying about Philbin and Aponte just shows that the disagreement with his demeanor and methods were not just delegated to the fanbase and players, but they still were done anyway (because he still had all the power, despite the crying otherwise).

Any new GM candidate will be allowed to remove Philbin from day one if they so choose so, but the fact is none are probably going to have any reasonable alternatives to replace him with. Removing Philbin and putting in a dud does no one any good, except for the people who like that sort of stuff. He will probably have another year to prove himself as if he improves, the GM looks like a genius for staying the course and if he fails, the GM says he's not his guy and gets an extension on his grace period (the standard 3 years).
