Darlington: There will be clarity by day's end

no one will be fired.. ross will bring in peterson or mangini as a "czar" or sorts to oversee football operations. philbin and ireland will need to report to this person instead of directly to ross.

NO GM WORKS IN A VACUUM! They pick players with input from the coaching staff. They pick players that fit the coaches' schemes and personality profiles. There have been several moves Ireland has made that have Philbin's finger prints all over them, notably: gutting the team of any and all outspoken players, including Dansby and Bush. Marshall was also shipped out of town because he didn't fit Philbin's preferred player persona.

Philbin ABSOLUTELY had input on the past 2 drafts, just as Sparano had input on the previous 4.

That being said, Ireland SUCKS and SHOULD BE GONE! But it is really naive to just pin all the Dolphins' personnel woes on Ireland and completely absolve Philbin of any blame as if he is just completely sideswiped by player acquisitions..

Assuming the rift is real where would it be coming from if they are in agreement on personnel?

Why even be excited for a draft with these jokers around? You know we won't even see them on the field until 2015! And when they do, most will probably just suck or be pedestrian anyway.

This staff doesn't dislike starting rookies. This staff dislikes starting guys who can't or aren't ready to play. i.e. most of the guys Ireland drafts.

Ryan Tannehill and Jon Martin started last year. Sam Brenner was thrown in this year ahead of Watkins. Dion Sims got more playing time than Egnew. Jelani Jenkins started replacing Wheeler at the end of the year.

OV, Lamar Miller, Ryan Matthews were all guys who saw MINIMAL playing time in 2012, but had some measure of success in 2013. Ryan Matthews in particular. There is NO reason he wasn't seeing the field in 2012 with the bunch of chumps they had running around out there.

Philbin likes to bring rookies along slowly. Its the Green Bay way. That being said, I am sure the fact that half of the 2013 was injured on draft day didn't help things.

If he doesn't fire anyone now, he at least better get someone in place to start formulating a plan on who to bring in next year so Ross is ahead of the hiring game when the season ends.

Just announce what we all know already. Barnum & Bailey will be around for another season.

OV got playing time last year. He also sucks at setting the edge against the run so that's probably part of it.

I don't know, I just don't think the record supports the theory that Philbin hates playing rookies.

Well, it sounds like the "clarity" will be Ross giving a statement to the media that there won't be any changes, and although he was disappointed by the result of the season, they were close, and sticking with Philbin/Ireland gives the Dolphins the best chance to compete in 2014.

:barf:

So in other words, unlike most owners, he will not panic, or allow fans/media to dictate what he believes is the right decision...good for him.

I'm still of the view that he wants to keep Philbin for another year, because there were times when things were coming together before the wheels fell off in Buffalo. However, there is merit in attaching the GM and Head Coach positions.
Either they both stay for 1 year and are given tough challenges or they should both go.

Yea i'm call BS on this one. Nothing gonna change. NO news by days end.
