You got to wait for him to be cut. Then it gets interesting.
Not a bad idea but you havr to plan for him not to be happy after that first year which he is a lock to do.

I would wait for the cut. I would bring him in.... I would stay closely monitored to his contract offerings and at most offer a 3 or 4 year with a lot of gauranteed money to offset a smaller yearly hit.
The Bucs did give up a lot to get him. But they wrote his contact the correct way. They cut him with ZERO cap hit.
Revis will probably listen to us because of Hickey.
We may have a back channel to his whole process and might quietly sneak in and grab him. Cutting Patterson and not pursuing Carroll, Clemons, Soliai and Starks gives us a lot of options and holes. If we go after Revis, we could change defensive philosophies with younger guys up front while Grimes and Revis lock down the receivers. We would inherently funnel all of the opposition's passing game to the middle of the field.
I'm just saying, with Wake and Vernon pressing the edges and an improved Jordan covering the TE and also harassing the pocket with Revis and Grimes covering the edges it would definitely be a different looking defense. Jones and Delmas over the top.... it all comes down to the DT's and LB's covering the run.
I doubt it would happen, but it is definitely one of those "up the sleeve" moves that could rock Finheaven.
And if that happens so be it. You can't count on a second round pick to be much better than a decent starter. In the meantime you get at least one year of having a cornerback tandem of Grimes and Revis. The whole point of having a young QB up under the new CBA is at you don't have to pay him that much. We don't face that dilemma for at least another two years.

As I said, I would gladly sacrifice a second round pick to assure that he's ours for at least one year while we have a favorable cap hit for our QB.

I am not sure he fits the system though I would take a player like him and make the system fit what he does well.
I completely understand your logic, but you have to look at this a different way. Revis, in our situation, is a luxury. We cannot forget the OLine and DLine will need a lot of draft picks and resources. And we don't have a lot of picks to give away. Giving up a 2nd is a steep price considering our needs.
I've always felt Patterson will be back at a much reduced "prove it to me" contract. That was one of the points I made earlier this year regarding the treatment of Grimes. By following up with our commitment to Grimes, we have started to buy ourselves some much needed credit in the eyes of the free agents and our own players. I believe Patterson will be signed on a no risk "prove it" contract regardless if Revis is brought in or not. That is why I believe Revis is a luxury. We don't HAVE to sign him.
And I don't want to burn picks on a position we don't truly have a need. We have a hole, not a need. But we also have 2 sophomores who need to play their way onto the field. I figure at least one should fill Carroll's shoes. Get a value FA and Patterson and we could say it's been addressed.
I want Revis, but I don't want to give up a pick for a luxury. Let's let the market decide his real value and hope Hickey can give us some leverage.
He's reportedly going to be cut either way, we can trade next to nothing for him. 16 mill isn't. A big deal because if it doesmt work out you can cut him at no loss and spend that $ next off season.
Its a bit of a risk, but not really.
Revis has shown the ability to change games by himself. You rarely get a shot to get a guy like that, especially without having to give years of guaranteed $ to them.
We should absolutely do this.

Didn't watch much Buc games but did he "change games" with them? I agree he's a good player but I'm not a fan. He's not the shutdown guy the world believes him to be. I still remember Ginn Jr. smoking his a$$.
