Why do i have a feeling that if we dont draft McClain we will be drafting Washington. Heck we might even draft both, you know how the trifecta likes drafting in pairs. I think we will be drafting Dez with our first rounder if he makes it to us. There are some pretty good prospects and ILB in this draft.

I know Washington is on the small side but he is stout against the run and has freakishly long arms. Hes my dark horse pick.

I think that would be like J.D Folsom....he was 238 when Miami took him,and he is ideal to Washington,so I cant see that happening

I thought Washington was a possibility when he was listed at 234lbs figuring that MIA could put 5-10 pounds on him but at 226lbs I dont see him as an option.

if he can retain his quickness, speed and athleticism despite gaining some weight, he might still be a nice option for us on day two. unfortunately, i think every cover-2 defense has him on their radar as WLB.

He's just not a fit in an NFL caliber 3-4 defense.

I guarantee you he won't even be listed on Miami's draft board.

Not a chance.

If we're taking LB's sub 245 look at Pat Angerer outta Iowa..There's a motor for ya!! ;-)

I really hope not. It really astounds me how so many people here have no clue what to look for in players at certain positions for a 3-4 defense.

I want nothing to do with Angerer.

All he is is a plugger, and an overachieving one at that. And we have plenty of those plug types who are hopefully on their way out sooner rather than later.

What we need is an ILB that is a threat to blitz from the middle with some size, and can handle the run. If you look at all the great 3-4 defenses over time, they all had that threat to pressure the Qb from the middle... making offensive lines think not knowing where pressure is coming from. And Angerer will never ever be that threat.

Plus he totally stinks in coverage.

SAY NO to that guy. He will not upgrade this defense. Wasting an early round pick on him would be very stupid.

His teammate A.J. Edds would be a much better choice for that spot. A thousand miles better. Edds is a guy who has some size to take on interior blockers against the run, and is a good tackler.. But he also has the ability to blitz and not look stupid doing it, and is very good in coverage. That's the "type" of guy you want to add to this defense at that position... actually making it an upgrade.

Of course Karlos Dansby can do all of those things as well, And I would love to pick him up. His game and overall talent/ability is exactly what this 3-4 defense desperately needs down the middle at the LB spot, if this defense ever hopes to be a great one.

agreed about angerer - don't want him here. but i'm confused about what you said about edds - who i'm still on the fence with. 'ability to blitz and not look stupid doing it' - when did he blitz? the guy had 2 sacks in 4 years - that's what worries me. we have to someone who knows how to rush the passer for that ILB spot - and i have a feeling edds will have to be taught how to do so.

love him in coverage though.

oh ... and no to washington. he's a 4-3 guy all the way. i would list the ILBs i like as follows:

1. spikes
2. mcclain (they're both interchangeable for me, honestly)
3. johnson
4. chaney
5. lee

If a LB is 6'1 226 lbs, we are going to have no interest in him for our defense. We would consider him for special teams only if he fell to the later rounds or went undrafted, neither of which will happen.

Why do I have a feeling that these pointless posts will never stop?
