Dolphins quarterback Daunte Culpepper practiced without a knee brace Friday.
OK, well, maybe it wasn't really a practice. And maybe the one-hour session of clock management drills required about as much physical exertion as shooting pool.

These days, however, when the status of Culpepper's surgically repaired knee ranks up there in importance with dinner with the president, every one of his moves seems to matter to fans and media alike. Don't think his teammates haven't noticed.

"Before everyone knew Daunte was healthy, everyone was saying how good the Patriots are going to be," defensive end Kevin Carter said. "Now, they're talking about how great Daunte Culpepper is going to be just because they can actually see him.

"It's like, 'Oh, so now we have a chance?''"

Indeed, with Daunte Fever in full force, the rest of the Dolphins intend to send a message today when they play their first exhibition game at 7:30 p.m. against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

nice. I hope the 3rd stringers play their guts out. I mean that in a serious way. I would like to see our depth guys really try and show something on every play. I mean preseason is what it is, but theres no reason for the 3rd stringers not to take it seriously.
