This is a statement released by Daunte acting as a player/agent. I trust what he's saying and him being healthy is only a matter of time. He's going to get there.

Here's what I think the Fins should do given their large cap space.

Keep Daunte until he gets healthy. Sign Trent Green when he's released. Give him a achievement based contract. Draft a qb in the second round.

That will allow us to not blow a first round pick on Brady Quinn. There are a few second rounders that with some development are going to be some pretty solid qbs in this league. We can then dump Cleo Lemon because he's about as good as he's going to get. A career number three guy.

By keeping Daunte around for another year we have a potential probowl player. By signing Trent Green we have a guy that can start if Daunte isn't healthy and can tutor our young qb. Once Daunte gets healthy he can then fight for the starting job.

Green has maybe one or two yrs left in him. I can only see him being here for one yr. If Daunte earns the job and can stay healthy, we have a qb that can hold the helm for the next three yrs, we can then trade him, and let are young, developed Cam Cam guy take over.

People are gonna say "that's to much money on Qb." What's it really matter? Free cap space is free cap space no matter how you spend it. If not at qb, what else would we do with it?

This is a solid post...
Logic and reasoning go a long way and I think you've showed both!
Green is old, battered and has his own issues as does Culpepper!
Why would we trade our trash for somebody elses?
Green is an insurance policy---stopgap!
If Green were a savior the Chiefs wouldn't dump him to keep Huard/Croyle. Huard? Come on..... Something is seriously wrong with that picture!

I agree with you having the three quaterbacks. I think what the dolphins should is restructure Dauntes contract until he can prove that he is going to be healthy and start. I dont know what daunte is earning right now so i dont know how much you can lower it. That should allow us to keep the cap space. Remember we have a lot of current cap space but you never know how much they are gonna spend on those draft picks. They a number 9 pick which is a lot and two number 2. Also you have to take into consideration if any veterans are let go after the draft

Very nice option, but first step for this would be to restructure Daunte's actual contract in order to keep a salary cap friendly payroll.

I respect your analysis but Duante will not be coming back to the Dolphins. We've all got to realize that. Cameron and Mueller can say all they want about health being the issue but really they're more concerned with his decision making ability or lack thereof. He was a deer in headlights lights last year. A human pinyatta. Does anybody remember when Marino came back from the achilles injury. He had a freakin peg leg. First game back, limping, he slings it for 5 tds and like 500 yrds. So, all that talk about cpep getting healthy doesn't change my mind about his inability to make a fast decision out there. Sorry.

I don't think drafting Quinn is actually "BLOWING" a first round pick...

Great 1st post.... Welcome to the board!

You nailed it, Duante is not what Cameron and Mueller want! He could be healthy and I still think they would be trying to trade him! They want someone different and they will find him in this draft!

I'm sure you've heard that saying about history repeating itself if you don't learn from the past.

Last year he said he would be ready for the opener. When Saban pulled him they got into a screaming match.

He has already said a number of times this past month, that he is the starter when he is healthy, even though the head coach said the job would not be handed to anyone.

He will be a problem if he is kept on the team and he isn't starting, AND more importantly he is not capable of judging when he will really be ready to play. He couldn't do it last year, and based on everything he's said so far he will not be able to do it this year either.

He is a problem waiting to happen...

I think this is a great idea as well. We have the space. Green is only good for a year (if that!). C-Pep may or may not have anything left, but I think he at least needs a legit shot at seeing if he can still be something. Plus we would still have a veteran presence for whichever QB we take in the draft. If he would restructure, then I can't see how we would lose ANYTHING by keeping him!

Restructuring has gotta be the key to Daunte sticking around. It would only be reasonable for Daunte to do so but the Coaches need to do a better job of reaching out to him. "Look Daunte, we want to give you every opportunity to resurrect your career and become the dolphins' starting qb, BUT because of your injury and basically being out of live NFL football for two yrs, it's a difficult to keep you on the roster at ur current salary without any guarantees your ever going to be healthy again. Daunte, we want you here at the right price".

Maybe Cam and Randy already have their mind made up about Daunte... But that would go against everything they preach "we're going to evaluate everybody and nobody is going to be given a starting job". "we want our qb to earn the job". They need to really evaluate Daunte on the field, through game film and dolphin practice time.

CDNPHIN.....lol..that is the best pic ever man...CB4 is awesome...
Lets Go Raps!

...regarding the state of the fins with Pepp....does ne1 think theres a possibility if we get Quinn(which is a moderate chance) that we still keep Pepp...or do we look towards Green as more of a groomer to a future qb?

You can speculate with "if's" and "but's" and that's fine, but how can you post an opinion as fact when you don't really know what will happen?

I don't think drafting Quinn is actually "BLOWING" a first round pick...

There are probably five qbs in this draft that are not ready to play in their first year and that includes Brady Quinn and Jamarcus Russell. The three or four other qbs are projected second or third round picks. One or two are a possible VERY late first. The second round qbs, with a year of NFL practice under their belt, I believe they will be just as far along as Brady Quinn.

My idea is to trade out our pick and pick up another second and third rounder. Draft Joe staley with our later first round pick, take a qb with our first second rounder, pray to god Meachem falls to our second second or another talented receiver, and then with the patriots pick we draft a legit center.
