Dave George: Dolphins go 'all in' with reach in grabbing Ryan Tannehill

What makes you think Tannehill will be a franchise quarterback? This is a huge risk because the guy might end up being a bust.

A guy can't be a bust if he has no expectations. If he has expectations, how can he be a huge risk?

this guy was dead on the money.

great read, and unfortunately for us, right on ALL points.

tannehill is the wrong qb at the wrong time for miami. he will be forced in, matt moore forced out, and THEN all of the teams weeknesses that cursed matt moore will suddenly be an issue and cover for tannehill like bad o-line, wr's droppiging balls and easy td passes gifted to them by MATT MOORE, offenses killing us because we have an awful secondary outside of vontae and no safetys or lb's that can deal with the pats TE's or pass rushers to rattle opposing qb's.

thats why the good teams beat us, not because of matt moore, but because we are a bad TEAM!!

tannehill will be the next to find this out.

Who? Took you all night long to finally find some irrelevant article featuring some no-name writers opinion with a bad twist on the Dolphins pick. BTW, the article only mentions Tannehill as a reach, not that the Fins "messed up big time" Please keep your ill-informed opinions out of the thread title as to try and promote your ignorant rants.

OP Fail.

Thank you

The draft is far from over. You make it sound like Tannehill is our only pick.

I don't agree with the part in bold. Tanny most likely won't even start 'til 2013, by then he will be ready. There will be no forcing him in...that would be the worst thing that could happen. I'm sure Philbin and Sherman are aware of that.

As a die hard Phins fan since 1971, I have a similar feeling as the 83 draft. I'm not saying Tannehill is going to be the next Marino, but I feel very confident that we have finally landed our first franchise QB since Dan. Nobody knows what this kid's potential is any better than Mike Sherman. For our FO to pass on Flynn after whiffing on Manning, knowing they were going to be taking some serious heat from the media, fans, and the so-called experts, tells me that they have very little to no doubt that Tannehill is going to be an absolute stud. If you are thinking about the long term future success of the Phins, then you have to love this pick. Now let's solidify our O line and get a deep threat WR to stretch the field. We are not going to be able to fill all our needs, so we should be of the mindset of drafting the BAP, especially on day three. Finally, I would definitely take a chance on Vontaze Burfict in the late rounds as his upside far outweighs the risk of wasting a late round pick. Here's hoping our FO knocks it out of the park tonight landing 2 or 3 impact players who will start this season. Go Phins!

Whether any of us think he is, he is because he was taken #8. We shouldn't expect anything less than a QB that will help the Dolphins contend for a Super Bowl in the up coming years. If he doesn't do that he's a bust, and they all go bye bye.

The same applies to Luck and RG3. And don't fool yourself into thinking their road is any easier than Tannehill's. They all have to go out there and do it.

For me, all these rookie QB's are really close as far as talent. They all have their question marks, some of those questions are of course larger than others. After saying all of that, IMO it's all about the coaching and talent that surround those QB's. We have to wait and see what talent Ireland surrounds Tannehill with. Today, Friday, is just as important as the 1st day of the draft. Let's see what happens today before so many of you go all Miami Fan crazy!

Weeden the system QB who is much older and should be better at this stage - is still not hands downs ahead at this point - it really is a crap shoot

I for one put me on record - love a QB who can extend first downs by a glance, similar to Elway and Young they could make you pay in more ways than just their arm - and that my friends is the ability of Tanny - he can hoof it up the sideline at any given moment - he can bait your D for 3 quarters and then sting you for a crucial first down or even go for 30 yards - Once Tanny gets comfortable opposing D will have to leave a spy on the QB - opens up the field that much more

If you need a franchise QB, you take the risk. It's about time we draft a QB in the first round, especially since it doesn't break the bank anymore.

Trying to hard there OP.

Why not post the Mayock articles about how he can be a Franchise QB? Or the McShay articles about the same thing?

No, you post some irreverent writer about a hot topic.

Because neither McShay nor Mayock are local beat writers. Dave George is. Or did you miss the "PALM BEACH POST" part? I bet you would have no problem if Ben Volin wrote the same thing.
