Dave George: Dolphins go 'all in' with reach in grabbing Ryan Tannehill

Why is everybody else a no miss pick and this kid is a risk, alot of people here wanted to pick at 6 what the Jets picked at 16.

What makes you think Tannehill will be a franchise quarterback? This is a huge risk because the guy might end up being a bust.

With risk comes reward. Or perhaps you would have perfered us drafting another offensive lineman? Because, you know, we've had such good success in the win/loss ratio after drafting lineman.

For those screaming "RYAN LEAF", how quickly you forget that the Chargers turned around and drafted Drew Brees and Phillip Rivers. They recovered from Leaf, and if Tannehill is a bust then we can recover from it as well. This "logic" of drafting second round quarterbacks has been a nightmare.

We did not have a quarterback. Every single attempt at free agency or second round quarterbacks has failed epically. We finally drafted a potential franchise quarterback. If he busts, that will suck. But at least we tried for once.

Its actually an article with valid points. I love how people here call the guy a no-name, and yet somehow they think their points are better on an anonymous board?? lol.

Think about it like this, we are putting a ton of faith in Sherman, a guy who failed on the college level with the same QB we just picked over Kuechly at 8. Luke would have been the QB of our defense for 10 years, and is much closer to a sure thing. Just throwing that out there. I would love to see Tannehill and Sherman look great and crush this year, but I am just being realistic about it, and I believe the article is as well.

reaching early only makes the competition better

carolina thinks we rock, new England is still laughing
we're gonna suck for awhile

:thanks::up:
And if we drafted a pass rusher instead of Tannehill, this same mofo would come out and say that the same trend continues for the Dolphins where Marino was the only QB drafted in the 1st round and the Dolphins had bigger needs at QB instead of a pass rusher..

No matter who we drafted, it was a "lose-lose" situation.

Tannehill might be the next big thing or a complete bust, but at least we have a new set of hope at the QB position that we did not have for a long time.

Let it play out....

I don't think Tannehill was a reason Sherman was fired. Sherman's defense couldn't stop a team of nuns from crossing the goalline. Plus that recieving corp was horid. They dropped 60 something passes.

I like the kid, especially as a prospect. He has the tools to be a franchise passer and He's in the perfect situation with our franchise to succeed. Let's see if he does. I guess you could say I'm "hopeful" about the pick.

Because neither McShay nor Mayock are local beat writers. Dave George is. Or did you miss the "PALM BEACH POST" part? I bet you would have no problem if Ben Volin wrote the same thing.

I don't like any of the "local" beat writers.

Especially a guy like Dave George, who doesn't write anything interesting until we draft a QB, then it's about how bad he is, and how Miami "took a big reach"

Besides, your thread title is a LOL, dude never even said that in the article. Reading fail.

If he's so awesome, why couldn't he beat out Jerrod Johnson pre-injury?

I have no issue at all with that POV. I'm excited to have a new QB. Just looking at the evidence on the table it is safe to say if things go south, Mike Sherman will not be a popular guy on these boards.

He had an earlier column in which he begged the Fins not to pick Tannehill, so yeah, my original thread title was spot-on.

What happened on Thursday was guesswork, so much different than the off-season drive to sign Peyton Manning and so far removed from the legacy of Miami's last first-round quarterback, Marino, that it's downright silly even saying their names in the same sentence.
Guesswork? The drafting of Tannehill was anything but guesswork. If anything it could be a case of too much information to the point of not seeing the forest for the trees.

draft:
1. Blackmon
2. Fleener
2. Weeden
4. OL
5. BPA
6. BPA etc

Interesting Mock draft.

Well at least 2 of those 3 guys were not available at our picks. In my defense, I made the list after Blackmon's slow combine 40 and before he blew the doors off at his pro day. Would have been interesting to reunite him with Weeden. Imagine the shot in the arm the three of these guys could have given our passing game. Now we likely wait in QB limbo for at least a couple more years as we slowly bring Tannehill up to speed. At least with Weeden we would have thrown him in and see if he sunk immediately.
