Agreed. Although, I don't think we are going to have to be too patient. This team has quite a few quality pieces in place already, and with good FA moves and a good draft we could be in line for a pretty good season next year.

Interesting interview, seems like every time philbin speaks, you get the chance to reflex in something. For example, the fine line between what a coach should inform a player and what's too much info, the battle between trying not to over inform the player, but knowing what he got is what he needs. That's something true, where too much info may result in a player doubting in the field, which could lead to mental mistakes and might cost you games. There's always the possibility the player gets overwhealmed. This is something coaches from all levels have to deal with every day.

I think from the reaction on finheaven, most phins fans are very supportive of the guy and happy about the hire. I def think as fans we have embraced the hire and things are looking up :)

I just can't get over the sudden openness and willingness to talk about things by both the Philbin and Ireland. It's been a long time since we have had that from the front office

Thanks for the link. I was surprised at such a short and simplistic interview from Hyde. Wonder if that was his decision or Philbin made it clear he was on short time?

BTW, at the Sun-Sentinel link I stumbled upon a 10-day old article on the death of former Dolphin right tackle Mike Current. That's the first I'd heard. Not sure it was mentioned previously on Finheaven. Apparently it was a suicide in Oregon with some unfortunate twists. Current was scheduled to appear in court the next day to plead on charges related to luring and abusing young children, aged roughly 10-14. But I read a subsequent article indicating the charges were questionable, that they were from the stepchildren of Current's ex-wife not long after their divorce, and nobody else had come forward with similar complaints. Current was arrested in Las Vegas recently and extradited to face the charges. A day before his suicide he met with his lawyer to plan their defense, and the defense attorney was very confident. Current's three grown children posted the $27,000 bail to get their dad out of jail.

I remember Mike Current very well as a Dolphin. He was a dependable but limited right tackle who always wore a horseshoe neck brace. I think we signed him during that period after Norm Evans was lost in the expansion draft and right tackle was unsettled for several seasons. We drafted Eric Laakso in that general time frame and he alternated with Current at right tackle. Now both of them have passed away within a year or so. The tackle position was addressed in the '79 first round with Jon Giesler. At that point it was obvious that Current, at the end of his career, wouldn't be around much longer.

Current was a media favorite with a ready grin and sense of humor. He appeared frequently on Channel 7's telecasts, if I remember correctly. Big guy with blonde wavy hair. It was a bit stunning to look at his mug shot photo at age 66.

I Knew I was right about this guy. who gives a damn if he called plays or not. he is a teacher. thats what coaches do.

The team has a fresh start with intelligent coaches who see the game as it is today. They are inheriting a nice group of core players with a few star players. They just have to fill in the holes and mild them into a cohesive team. We should competing for the division title this season.

For some reason I just LIKE Joe Philbin. Here's the danger zone. Unassuming coach, expectations are moderate, very level headed, great teaching coach - the potential is phenomenal for this team. There is also another interview with him with NFL Network on the Brandon Marshall comments:

Again, to echo this forum, Joe seems like a great person and a great coach who has the potential to do great things with this team (a la Mike McCarthy)
