By itself, the trading of Brandon Marshall to Chicago for two third-round picks is so awful for the Dolphins there has to be something more behind it. I'm guessing it's Peyton Manning. I'm guessing it's to clear some cap space to get Manning, Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark and put the Indy gang back together.

Let's play this out. Two years ago, the Dolphins traded two No. 2 draft picks to Denver and gave Marshall a $47.5 million contract ($24 million guaranteed) for Marshall. So for two years' service, they gave up two high draft picks and about $35 million? And they get two third-round picks in return?

That's not a move a team makes unless there's something else behind it. And, again, it has to be Manning. That's the focus of the Dolphins' off-season plans. The Dolphins save $5.8 million against the cap by trading Marshall. Again, that's little compared to the huge outlay in the first couple of years.

Do they take that to sign Wayne? Is this part of some sign Manning wanted to see before signing with the Dolphins? This couldn't have been done to make an easier landing spot for Matt Flynn, clearing out a receiver who hasn't always been happy with his quarterbacks (Chad Henne, Matt Moore ...)

Nor would you make such a bad trade to make Marshall happy. He's jokingly (?) talked about reuniting with Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler. But so what?

Let's sit back and see what else happens.

Dave Hyde is thinking logically.  The problem is, we're not sure if the Dolphins are.

OOORRRRRR we now have 8 picks in the first 3 rounds over the next 2 years. Sounds like plenty of firepower to go get Luck. Of course I have no idea and more than likely wrong I'm just speculating what my favorite outcome would be after this odd trade.

Why would the first pick be traded??? The colts are not going to trade that pick, everyone knows luck will be a colt.

Or more like Barkley next year if all else fails this year with not getting a QB worth anything. Omg I hope this isn't a long season and if so Bust for Barkley lmao I can see / read it now hahaha

There is a team in the AFCE that is really sweating - ;)

Manning when healthy made Tamme, Garcon, and a bunch of other so and sos look like money he can make it through without sir what's his face

It does not matter why they traded him. It was a bad trade. Ireland should of been able to get more back for Marshall. This is the worst deal he has brokered as our GM.

Haha. Whatever if the colts even had one little once of dealing the first pick, they would have kept Manning then deal the pick. So first they let Manning go which some fans did not want, but at least they could sell it because they are getting the top rated QB in a draft since Manning. You think Irsay could deal that pick and then make it out of Indy before the fans kill him. You could offer Indy your next 5 firsts and a 2nd and third this year as well and they still would probably turn it down.

Yah being BM is such a hot commodity as it is? With all the FA WRs on the market right now

I'm not a fan of the trade unless it nets us Manning whom I assume would convince Wayne to follow him here.

I don't like how Marshall has been whining about our QB's and openingly wanting to play with Cutler, but you don't trade a Pro Bowl WR for two 3rd round draft picks.

You dont think he isnt worth more then 2 3rd picks? They would of been better off keeping him.

Hyde spit that one out pretty quickly. He makes good points. In a vacuum it's an incredibly poor value considering what we paid to get him only 2 years ago. Whatever else happens that trade by itself so terrible it pretty much has to mean Manning and Wayne.

Trading your best player for nothing, in the HOPE that manning MIGHT sign with your team, isnt logical. Its stupid.

And if Manning signs, who will he throw to? Brian Hartline? Reggie Wayne is a shell of what he used to be, hardly a #1 WR.

This whole thing reeks of Ross and Ireland being taken advantage of by both Manning and the Bears.

Agreed.  The logical thinking would be that the action was based on a pre-existing agreement, not a hope.
