Tampa Bay wrapped up its third and final organized team activity of the week at One Buc Place on Thursday afternoon, but the Bucs didn’t just spend part of the late morning and early afternoon looking at their own players.
The Bucs also took a look at former Arizona, San Diego and Miami wide receiver David Boston, who visited One Buc Place for a tryout on Thursday, according to The Tampa Tribune.
The 6-foot-2, 230-pound Boston has hauled in 315 career passes for 4,699 yards (14.9 avg.) and 25 touchdowns since entering the NFL in 1999 as a first-round pick out of Ohio State.
Boston, 27, spent the first four years of his career in Arizona. His best season came in 2001 when he caught a career-high 98 passes for 1,598 yards (16.3 avg.) and eight touchdowns as a Cardinal.
In 2003, Boston signed with the San Diego Chargers. He caught 70 passes for 880 yards (12.6 avg.) and seven touchdowns in 14 regular season games, but that journey turned into a one-year stint after a rift reportedly began between he and Chargers head coach Marty Schottenheimer.
Boston joined the Miami Dolphins in 2004, but he didn’t see action in a regular season game that season due to a season-ending knee injury he sustained. To make matters worse, Boston was suspended by the NFL for four games for testing positive for steroids in December of 2004.
In 2005, Boston caught just five passes for four yards in five regular season games before suffering a torn left ACL, which ended his season prematurely.
It is not yet clear how much interest Tampa Bay has in signing Boston. The Bucs already have a pretty full stable of wide receivers that includes veterans Joey Galloway, Michael Clayton, Ike Hilliard, Edell Shepherd and Mark Jones. The Bucs have also invested four draft picks in wide receivers Larry Brackins, Paris Warren, J.R. Russell and Maurice Stovall over the past two years.
