I'm over here now
With some talk on here and the lack of FA, draft or UDFA's signings of an OLB, can David be an OLB for us?

We do not have the kind of depth at that position for me to be comfortable with. Someone goes down and Hodge and Spragan are starting.

I think he is athletic enough and 6'3 260 is a good size for it (maybe a tad to heavy but that can be worked on if he would be used that way.

Is he fast enough?

i dont think david bowens would be nearly as fast enough to play olb but it could possibly work out

I think David will have a very important role on our defense this year. He will have the exact same role as Jason Taylor.. think of a less athletic JT..

I think he could play LB but im not sure that would be a great idea but u never no.

The better question is if he can play rush backer in the 3-4

He would be used like Willie was in NE or Porter in Pittsburgh. He would not necessarily be covering folks in passing situations. He would be the rush backer.

plz... olb? i thought he was cut in the 2004 season

There's been some talk that JT doesn't posess the athleticisim to play a 3-4 OLB. Now we all know that JT is a phenomenal athlete and good against the run, but I think that some have speculated this because he supposedly doesn't have the linebacker agility that you look for in a 3-4 OLB. Not sure what I was trying to say there but I guess my point is that if there are some questions about whether JT can play at 3-4 OLB, then I don't think Bowens will be able to because he is not the athlete that JT is.

P.S. Don't throw me to the wolves, I think JT will be a great pass rushing 3-4 LB.

Dom Capers is the innovator of the zone blitz...I'm sure he'll have Bowens playing where he'll be most effective. I do think he play outside LB.

David Bowens is a good front 7 defensive player. Nick Saban and Dom Capers will find a role for him and trying to define him to one position is hopeless and wont get you anywhere. We run a HYBRID scheme.

I like Bowens on our team, but not in any capacity as a starting OLB.We need somebody solid and there could be a few cuts comming after the upcoming signings on all the teams.
