David Cornwell’s statement regarding Jonathan Martin

One player is a jokester, the other a joke.

My brother (BUF fan) called me today, with all kinds of cute jokes. He is getting caught up on news of situation in Miami. And he wanted to know if Martin needed the 1-800 number to speak with a crisis counselor. My 15 year old nephew (KC fan) called and asked for the address down in Davie, so he could send his HS anti-bullying poster to the team HQs. There has been alot more said, from friends and co workers.

The joke is on us, thanks to Martin.

Even if Incognito was wronged in this specific situation in some way, I find him a pretty detestable human being. Hard to empathize with, and I empathize with everyone here. I even empathize with someone I hate -- Jeff Ireland. How can you not empathize with him staring into the abyss of losing the job he's wanted his whole life?

Unfortunately I think a lot of the people on the forum aren't dogging on Martin because of the situation he found himself in. I think they're dogging on him because his resolution to that situation has made their favorite NFL team look foolish. That's pretty sad, imo, that people would let their fandom overwhelm the normal human instinct to empathized with the bullied, rather than the bully. Which isn't to say you have to agree with the way Martin handled it. But if this isn't the Dolphins then we'd only be seeing a fraction of the hate.

He never told anybody what was going on, that's my problem with Martin he just left and now this **** comes out he could have stopped and he didn't he blew up when he got demoted.

Here's what's funny about this situation. I bet if Richie Incognito had said that to Rex Ryan... Rex might have taken him up on it. :rotfl1:

Insta-boner if he mentioned gang raping his wife I bet.

Clean up on aisle nine is Cogs said he wanted to **** in her mouth too.

Too f****ing bad. There is a right to free speech. There is no right to not be offended. People can be offended for what ever reason they can conjure up in their mind, but that doesn't mean the rest of the world should have to acquiesce to their demands.

Actually freedom of speech does not apply to be able to say anything you like. Hate speech is not protected.
If you think there is no right for people to not be offended then just walk into any mcdonalds and start talking about some biracial person and telling them you are goin to deficate on thier mother.
Im pretty sure you will be arrested and charged with a hate crime and possibly more.

Well, obviously. But this didnt happen between random people in a McDonalds. The situations arent remotely similar.

here's the thing.. j mart is bombing the organization, if there is any proof that says he went to coach and said "some of the guys are talking about ****ing my sister, calling me a half ****** and threatening to kill me & I really am upset about this." and they did nothing then I'm in camp martin, until then I side on the actual teammates and their evaluation of the situation.

Just playing devils advocate what if he never told management and kept it all to his self. How does who or if he told have any bearing on your assessment of what was done to him was right or wrong. Is it simply a matter of not believing him?

I keep hearing the idea that this is a money grab, can anyone recall any athlete in any sport doing something remotely close, i.e. a money grab. Its a plot point out of a really bad movie.

I'm sure the disappointment of him not following the family to Harvard, and now his apparent regressing in the NFL isn't sitting well with his parents. hence hiring this lawyer and the smear campaign against all things dolphins, and football for that matter.

If Martin got into Stanford he likely could have gotten into Harvard especially being legacy and a decent football player. My guess is he attended Stanford because the football program is better and maybe he wanted to be out west. I don't think this is about trying to please disappointed parents. Stanford has been the consistently in the top five ranked Universities in the country just like Harvard. At best they were disapointed with his choice. This is about finding a way out of football with a nice payout and probably a desire to expose a side of the NFL / football he and perhaps his parents did not care for.

The timing of the release of this statement is expert. From another forum:

great timing, just before halftime, national audience,,, enough time that its gonna get commented on, not enough time to research facts,,, leaves imprint overnight,, good work

That got me thinking... The timing of this whole incident was great for national exposure. He left the team on a short week with a nationally televised game on NFL Network. That was a great way to build up the story before a national audience... Then you drop some bombshells on Sunday morning just before everyone gets their football fix, and then you have an extra long week for it to build until ANOTHER nationally televised game on Monday Night Football - on the very channel that broke this story in the first place and is eating from the agent/lawyer's hand right now...

These guys are straight up EVIL.

How are they going to prove these additional quotes are even real? I doubt any player is going to step up and own it if was indeed said. Unless there's a recording of this one as well...

Because if he had said something to management, they almost certainly would have put a stop to it.

Joe Philbin, the guy who curbed the use of f-bombs at the facility, suspended Incognito as soon as he was presented the voicemail. You think he wouldn't have done something if it was presented to him previously?

And if it comes out that he FLAT LIED and it WAS presented to him before? Then Joe is TOAST. But I highly doubt Joe would lie emphatically, repeatedly on that point. And if he did, Martin's camp would have called him out already, IMO.

freedom of speech does not apply in this situation at all. Freedom of speech as constitutionally presented only protects you from the government interference in your speech.
"

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press

the first amendment only protects you from the government. It does not protect you from society, or the consequnces of said speach.
