Are we stuck with David Martin as our top TE for the coming season??

Maybe it was my bitterness toward the organization when they let one of the better pass-catching TE's in the league go (McMichael), but no player angered me more than Martin last year. Sure there were plenty of dropped balls by receivers last year, but more than anyone it seemed that Martin dropped every crucial 3rd down pass that came his way or was flagged for holding or false start that would kill a drive.

Isn't the old saying "A good TE is a young QB's best friend"? Maybe Beck would have made more progress with one.

It doesn't look like there are any shining stars in the free agency pool, but does the draft hold any promise for me??

If there is anyone who I wanted to get cut, his name was David Martin

john carlson, but i doubt we spend a high pick with all the other holes... who knows though, i'd love to have carlson as an ND fan

I think we'll probably nab a TE either in round 3, 4 or 7. Maybe FA, too.

I know Martin's been really horrible for us last season, but he's pretty decent #3 TE for a system that will likely use multiple TE sets. Yea, Beck could've done better with a better safety valve, but those are hard to come by anyways. There are a few in the draft but will likely be a bit raw themselves.

Plenty of TE's will be cut between now and opening day. Also, I wouldn't mind trading a late round pick for someone like Joe Klopfenstein. He is 6'5" and weighs in around 260. The dude was incredible at Colorado and the Rams took him in the 2nd round of the '06 draft. Linehan brought McMichael in when he became head coach and Joe's talents are being wasted backing up Randy.

Klofenstein weighed in at 255 pnds at the '06 combine and his pro day. He ran 40 times of 4.63 and 4.56. He also benched 225 pounds 27 times.

By the way, Witten is 6'5" and weighs in around 260. He was selected in the 3rd round by Dallas in the '03 draft.

we will most likely draft one.
We just picked up a run block TE. Martin will be gone in do time. He almost got Beck killed a few times. On both sides of the line.

Did you see how well the guy who played for us did in Green Bay?

McMicheals is a dead beat. What did he do with the Rams?

Martin will be gone in due time. The FA crop for TE's was horrendously weak. The one name still out there is Kris Wilson but hes more of an H-back, something you will see utilized more as the season wears on.

i think we will get a Big TE in the Draft i hope Dustin Keller is still there in the 3rd round that would be a good pick up IMO or Kellen Davis i really Like both these guys

Gotta love the organization for giving away Donald Lee and Randy McMichael. If you look at the top teams every year, most of them had consistent production from the TE. Hopefully someone realizes this eventually...

There is no way we can judge any of our TEs when it comes to pass catching because our QB play was devil-awful and our OL's play sucked in the 2nd half of season.

So the same way John Beck and Cleo Lemon's horrendous play gave us no gauge on Tedd Ginn's progress...Martin(who played like an All Pro in the last 3 games of the season) should also be given a pass for last season.

Jacob Tamme out of Kentucky.

-Fast
-Great hands
-Def a recieving TE
-Comes from a very fast past offense

We could draft him in the 3rd-4th, and he would be our Recieving TE wile Pelle could be our blocking TE.
