Joey Haynos enters as the front-runner for the No. 3 job, with Ernest Wilford, fifth-rounder John Nalbone and undrafted Jared Bronson pushing him. Wilford's best chance of sticking is if David Martin (Anthony Fasano's top backup) needs more time to recover after sports hernia surgery. But Martin's agent, Terry Williams, said Martin ``is healthy and ready to go.'' Nalbone and Bronson look like practice-squad options.
Good news.

It is a pretty good article by Barry Jackson breaking down some of the upcoming camp competitions. Here are some other eye catching highlights:

But the Dolphins have monitored veteran free agent corners, including Mike McKenzie and Travis Fisher, and will consider adding one if Smith, Davis and Green are substandard in training camp
One official close to the Dolphins front office said Wake has been ordinary, and is no cinch to make the roster. Don't misunderstand: The Dolphins still have hopes Wake -- a highly skilled athlete -- can be good, but he must show it in camp.

Wow, news for once :D

Regarding Wake, I don't think we can really claim that he's good or bad until preseason (if he makes it to preseason) .. he seems like a guy that shows up in games more than practice. Same with Pat White.

Until then, I think he'll continue to look "ordinary". However, he is essentially considered a rookie, since this is actually the furthest his NFL career has ever gone. An old rookie. Like ...eh.. John Beck.

I remember that poster that Made that ."Wake up the neighbors" avatar..Until he produces I would not boast on a guy like that...But who knows until the pads come on..He may be a stud or dud for all we know..

Well I think that i would sign one more cornerback and let one wr go and carry more cb's because they are harder to find durring the season then the other positions.

Sounds like the Dolphins like what they have with David Martin and Andy Alleman if both are healthy. That could spell some trouble for the Shawn Murphy, Brandon Frye, Ike Ndukwe crowd.

Miami kept 8 DL last year and usally at least 8 LBs. I think we can keep 9 LB (most 3-4 teams do anyway if you have good special teamers as we do in Torbor, Walden, and Anderson).

Still not sold on keeping 6 WRs or 6 CBs.

I was real happy with the way Martin performed last year, he made some pretty sweet grabs, and certainly wasn't afraid to take a tough hit. Hopefully he can duplicate that performance or who knows maybe even better it.

Good post, read the article and I hope that Wake shows up in TC. Apparently he was invisible without the pads on. I still expect Wilford to make it as a flex player. There are so many stories going into TC that its gonna be hard keeping up with them all... And i wouldn't have it any other way.

we simply have to wait til the pads go on for anyone new to make this roster. pajama parties dont cut it. Can he lay the lumber? I would bet yes.

But JT is a DE/LB. dont let the 3-4 thing fool ya. We ran alot of 4 down linemen on pass downs and I see Joey and JT with their hands in the ground alot with few LB's and 5 0r 6 DB's with one blitzing from time to time.

Nice read.

But I don't think that Hartline is a lock.. I would rather cut Hartline than London.. London is more important to the special teams..
Walden is a near-lock imo because of his huge special teams value.. The Moses-Anderson decision will be a tough one imo

Well, if I were Tony Sparano, my D-line would be:

Langford, Merling, Starks, Dotson and McDaniel (5 DE's)
Ferguson and Soliai (2 NT's - keep Cohen or Ellis on the practice squad).

My LB's would be:

Porter, Roth, Taylor, Anderson, Walden and Wake (6 OLB's)
Crowder, Ayodele and Torbor (3 ILB's)

I don't see the reason to keep that 6th DE around again this year. Last year it was Rod Wright whose only apperance was in the wild-card game because Starks was out. We also ran some base defensive alignments with 4 down linemen, which Starks was probably more accustomed to than Dotson and got the nod to dress.

I don't see any other LB's that would be worth keeping around. If you have to stash Cohen or Ellis on the 53 man roster to keep them from being pilfered off the practice squad (like we did with Dotson last year) that's fine.

Obviously, as you said, Jason Taylor, and I would imagine Charlie Anderson and Cameron Wake will get a chance to play DE in 4 down linemen passing formations (nickel and dime), but I'd still consider them LB's.
