David Martin locks up spot on 53 man roster

I'm still not a David Martin fan, but I guess he'll suffice for at least one more season. The team will surely find an upgrade to him in the 2009 Draft.
 
Here's another piece of the article, confirming what everybody already knew the FO would do. It should be interesting.

"When you are taking people that are going to get waived one way or the other, if there is somebody that we're interested in bringing to the team, we just want to make sure it was player 54 for another team that we're trying to get," Sparano added as a warning to the 31 NFL teams that might hope to initially cut a young player, and stash him on the practice squad.

Man I think Sparano is going to cut D Bess. I can't hate on Camirrillos (sp?) ST play....He laid wood Saturday. But man Bess is like a better version of Wes Welker imo.

Actually, that's good to know. I didn't like D. Martin as a starter, but i'll take him as a backup TE anytime. He has experience and playmaking ability. Considering he won't be on the field full-time, he's a soild backup.

I also like Justin Peele's pass catching abilities, however, he lacks the run blocking ability.

And.....Finally....

Sparano said Wilford will play a lot Thursday because the team needs to evaluate him.

That's what we need to do. Put Wilford on the spot. Give him 3 quarters if needed be. Let's let him loose on the field and see what he really brings to the table. If he stinks it up, then let him go.

Oh you wanna know why i think he is better than Welker.....

1. He is a Dolphin
2. He is faster
3. His hands seems better
4. he runs better routes

Although untested like Welker....He shows more promise when judging them at the same level.
 
Well Martin played pretty well against the Chiefs, i wish we could see more of that out of him, maybe we will. I never really liked him out of Green Bay though, i think i'd rather see Peele and Fasano as the TE's over Martin. We'll see what happens though. Maybe Martin will turn the corner.
 
I really hope we keep Bess. Someone else is going to sign him the second we release him, if we do, and hes going to be good somewhere else.

Easy there. Im starting to like Bess too, but lets keep it real. Welker has one of the best set of hands in the league and runs EXCELLENT routes. I dont think you can put a guy ahead of him that didnt get drafted and has only been around for a camp and a few preseason games. He has alot to prove before you start even comparing him to Welker. Im not so sure he is faster either. Welker is definately quicker, but top end speed im not sure who wins that race. Id have to see it.
 
I read earlier in the offseason that Martin worked on his blocking and that it showed in camp. I don't mind having Martin on the roster as a backup. I'm just wondering who's going to be lining up opposite of Fasano in our 2 TE sets.

well thats where I can compare them at Bess's stage in his career. Welker was undrafted as well. The only thing Bess is lacking is that he might cant kick extra points.
