David Overstreet Sr.
Miami's 1st round pick in 1981. Died in a car accident after his rookie season. Cote from Miami herald said that he was promising.
I cant help but think had this guy not passed away and lived to his playing potentials I have read about on the internet....Maybe just maybe the SB Miami Vs San Fran could have played out a bit differently. He averaged 4.1 yards a carry his rookie year....Only taking like 75 carries.
Now his son
David Overstreet Jr is ranked a s top prospect as a Safety in next years draft. He is pretty big safety that loves to hit and I mean hit hard. Google his name you will see the articles.
I highly doubt Saban drafts 2 safetys in the 1st round...But maybe destiny could land this guy in Miami? Finish what his pops started. Copy paste this link...this guy is a physical beast. He is listed at 6ft 210 pds but man he looks much bigger. Once you peep him out.....Imagine Him and Jason Allen as your safeties.

Right now, I see Bell and Allen as are starting safeties (Provided Bell beats out Hill and Cooper). However, I'd still draft him due to Bell's age.

He Never knew his Dad...

Looks like he was born a few months before his dad was killed in car accident???
I still remember reading about that....his dad hit a gas station with his car...while DWI???
I think when he was Drafted...Joe Robbie was to cheap and he played in Canda first...
What could have been....

Yeah what a horrible way to die...He basically burned to death.

Great post. I agree 100%. Not to mention Marino might have had a great RB to help him and the team over the years.

RIP Overstreet.

That was during our cursed time, in a matter of three years we lost david Overstreet, Rusty Chambers and Larry Gordon.

That was a terrible time. I didn't realize that was how Overstreet died

Overstreet was visiting in Dallas during a holiday. He then headed out on the 100-mile trip to his mother's home in Big Sandy. The NFL runner fell asleep and crashed only eight miles short of his destination. He was killed in the accident.

Are you sure about the DWI ? I cant imagine driving 100 miles in that condition.

Anyway RIP David Oversteet. We hardly knew you.

Surtain,

Allow me to put your mind at ease: San Francisco 38 Miami 16

And if you ever saw it, SF could have scored 60. So unless Overstreet could play like a maniac on defense, Miami had no chance of winning that game. I think our defense was about 20th in the league out of 28 teams that year.

Now the '82 super bowl vs. Washington, now that's another story. We actually had our chances to win that one, but the 49ers were in another world from us.

The loss of Overstreet was tragic, but it wouldn't have made any difference in that Super Bowl. The Dolphins couldn't stop SF if they had a 12th man on defense. It would have made Overstreet a non-factor at some point in the game.

Yup. I remember it was about the Philly game that year when the defense really started to come apart. By the Super Bowl it had gone past mediocre into being just plain bad. I should have realized we'd get killed after Mark Malone and a weak Pittsburgh offense slapped around the defense pretty well in the AFC championship game.

Overstreet

Hey there! I'm a big dolphin fan on the west coast. I remember David Overstreet as a good running back, but not a great one. He would not have helped us against the 49ers in SB XIX. I agree with the previous thread about the SB game with Washington. That game we could've won! The offense with David Woodley was ineffective and Woodley was 4-14 all day. Strock came in to late in the 4th. Bokamper not being able to come up with that INT late in the 3rd qtr. The killer was the Riggins touchdown. I read years later that D-coordinater Bill Arnsparger failed to call time out when the team lined up wrong. And that he regretted it to this day. Don McNeal takes the heat for the mis-tackled, but all the D-guys took bad angles on that touchdown run.

Believe it or not..I ran into McNeal one year when I visiting at a Miami game. He was on the same aircraft that I was on. I asked him about that play and he wishes he could've made that tackle

what a great Dolphin he could of been, but what a great Sooner he was

RIP man, Ull always be a Sooner

joe robbie was cheap, we Drafted david with our 1st pick that year
we wouldent pay him what he wanted, so he went north to Canada
his coach up there called him butter fingers, for as much money as they paid him they felt he needed to hold onto the ball better and cut him, the Dolphins still held his rights and he came back the rest as they say is history
im sure i dont remember it all
