Watching the preseason opener, I wondered if Terrell Buckley was making a comeback. That's who Davis reminded me of when Miami drafted him in the third round a year ago and now I wonder if he's the third corner behind Grimes and Finnegan. Davis reacts so quickly to the ball in the air. Loved seeing that against Atlanta.

Phillip Wheeler can't remain a starter for long, unless he seriously steps up his game in preseason. Jenkins and Tripp are both in line to start the season opener in my opinion based on their early play and lack of anything from Wheeler.

I'm done watching wheeler. He is garbage. I would rather see someone with upside and instincts. Wheeler is just unbearable to watch.

Unfortunately I think his salary keeps him starting

You mention Jenkins and Tripp, but... and I need to see more film on the guy but I'm not so sure that McCain would be the better solution - at the moment - [if he can build up his strength and be able to set the edge (likely to be a year 2 thing after an off season program/me)].

Don't get me wrong, I like Tripp and Jenkins. Both need work and physical development, just like McCain, but I like the movement of all three and as a group, could be a future state solution, if not short term solution on a rotational basis between the three in one or two positions as they have a similar skill set. And I definitely see one/all of them being a player in the nickel/dime package.

They need work and physical development - don't get me wrong. But I like what I see from a future state/development standpoint.

Ellerbe looks almost as bad as Wheeler IMO...for all the money we paid these guys, we are getting ripped off...

And his salary should NOT factor into it.

Great point. If that is a consideration for Miami, what I would like to see is Coach P saying... f' it... this other guy [whomever it may be] is a better solution for us not only now but going forward - and put Wheeler on the bench - if not cut him, even if his salary says you got it wrong. The joker in the pack with this one is that Hickey didn't sign him - and if Wheeler were to be cut, that's a major sign of Hickey showing his cajones - which I would like very much.

Davis has natural ability in covErage, especially when it comes to tracking the ball down. My worry w him, is if he plays a lot, what happens when teams run at him. That would my game plan evEry down. He's a horrible tackler and he's tiny.

But no doubt, his ability to close in on the ball is second to none.

Wheelers salary will give him a chance to win a starting role. But clearly this staff is already looking at other options. I don't think wheeler will be handed Anything.

In addition, I thought Fede played well, and brought some pressure. I can see him on the roster until Jordan comes back.

Tripp needs to get stronger...look for him to grab a starting spot next year. As for this year he'll be on special teams and get some spot duty here and there like Jenkins did last year. Same with McCain but both clearly have more upside than Wheeler and Ellerbe. Wheeler just sucks in any scheme and Ellerbe is too slow to be a linebacker in a 4-3...he's best suited for a 3-4 defense. We need to go all in next year in the draft at linebacker and if Miller doesn't show anything this year it's time to turn the page on him as a starter and find someone that can be that RB we need.

Davis does have a long way to go in run support. That will limit him a little to obvious passing downs. But, man do I love his talent.

Good points all around. Agree we need to get a linebacker early in next years' draft -- unless Todd Gurley is there when we pick. As for this year, I honestly don't see how Jenkins or Tripp could be worse than Wheeler at this point. Not found of Ellerbe either, but he shows more than Wheeler IMO.
