but's and if's... he's in camp and the offset language is there. Win for both sides in that ryan got more money.
 
What was everyone's take on her from Hard Knocks? Some believe that she was the one playing hardball with RT, without Ireland, based on what she said. I did not hear it that way, and later in the show Ireland was talking about RT e-mailing him as well.

he wasn't signed then...that's my point...i get that he's signed now...obviously...so it doesn't matter anymore...but the fact still remains that had tanny not given in to the offset language miami was b/t a rock and a hard place ross especially the longer this thing went...especially considering that it was a qb...the one thing they went into this offseason saying they must improve

anyways water under the bridge now...lets hope going forward we don't have to be the leagues guinea pigs...got a feeling we will be though

so her tough talk is just posturing on the teams part imo...luckily ryan didn't want to continue holding out wanted to get on the field and play cause he loves the game...some other guys they may call your bluff for a good while at least

Hoops, I don't know if you saw it or not but Nubs made a thread which stated that every single contract the Dolphins and a player have come together on after Dansby has included offset language. I actually like the policy. It will keep us from being in cap hell down the road if players become complacent/injured/talent declines and need to be cut. It's funny how the Patsies FO is praised for not bowing down to the demands of players and now that the Fins are doing it (for a couple years to be exact) its a big black eye for the franchise. Doesn't make sense to me.

there was something about ireland saying he got an email from ryan and he's not happy...i don't know if that was ryans actual representation or ryan himself but it lead to believe that it was actually ryan expressing his unhappiness over the situation...which if thats the case i don't think players usually go that route they let the agents do the talking...more fire for ryan told his agent to get this done in a hurry...good for us that the kid wasn't willing to continue sitting out

Well in all honesty Miami had all the leverage.

I mean, is the kid really going to sit out a year of organized football and give up his golden ticket to risk going back into the 2013 draft where he most certainly would have gone out of the first round due to the circumstances - no.

His agent called a raise and when Miami said "all in" Tanny's agent said "Aaahhhh ya got me, I fold".

Aponte seems to be the negotiator. She seems to be the one with in-depth understanding of the cap rules, contract language, etc. I think, by direction, Ireland tells her he wants a contract made for such and such player within certain parameters and she draws up the contract and negotiates with the agent. Ireland is more the meet and greet, evaluator, putting a price on a players value type of guy. Doesn't seem like Ireland does much of the negatiations. He seemed frustrated to me, as well as Philbin, on Tannehill not being signed and in camp. Ireland even mentions Tannehill wanting it to be fair to him (the contract). It's an interesting relationship...and I wonder if at some point Ireland has to step in on the negotiations with players since Aponte seems oblivious to the fact they're trying to build a team. Her only concern seems to be managing the cap and not the talent behind the numbers.

That's just my take.

i did see that...and i was surprised...but all those other guys aren't qbs...and they're not top 10 pick qbs...to a team and fanbase that was STARVING for a qb...ross knew it ireland knew it hell ireland got picketed over the position everyone knew it...ross would have eventually had to give in if he didn't want this fan base to turn on him...no doubt in my mind had tanny gone back into the 2013 draft and garrard and matt moore been the qbs over some offset language that stadium you would have heard crickets...

i don't agree with the miami had all the leverage talk...with a lot of nfl teams fan bases they could have gotten away with hard ball for a long time...with us though given our qb situation and the dire need and the way the offseason search at the position went i think ross would have eventually told aponte to get it done...

That's the same impression I have as well. Holmgren had to step in up in Cleveland for them to resign Cribbs and I'm guessing Ireland had to step in here as well just to calm the waters a bit. If anything it could also give the players more respect for Ireland for stepping in and helping them out. If Tannehill didn't think Ireland could have helped him he wouldn't have asked which shows just how much trust he has in Ireland.
 
I don't like if's and I don't like looking back. I only care about the now and the where we're going. we could if ourselves to death, if only we'd drafted drew brees...

actually that type of thing is exactly why you want to have a compartmented office structure with ireland at the top. He actually gets to play good cop to aponte's bad cop.

Aponte is our capologist ( a VG one), as well as a VP in administration. From what I recall, she told Philbin that she expressed where both sides stood and, based on that, RT would not be a Dolphin and have to go back to the draft. To me, that was just stating the obvious, and was the team's stance, not her's. I have to replay it.

I totally understand your point of view, but agree with it or not, they obviously have a policy they are trying to implement during all contract negotiations. The good thing is instead of putting their foot down they negotiated and found middle ground to make everyone happy. Hopefully this is how contract negotiatins for this team work out in the future, where there is give and take from both sides.
