When she was here it seemed like we could sign whoever we wanted every year. Is it just me, or do we need her back for our cap?

She is working for another Ross company. But yeah seems you are right. I am great w numbers. I can be a capologist

Other than the extra 10 million that went to Cutler last year, we don't normally have cap issues with or without her.

Other than hand wringing from people that have no idea what they're talking about (including Big O) we operate just fine even with Suh, Tannehill, Reshad, Pouncey yadda yadda yadda contracts.

Amateur capologists get so wrapped up in contracts and nonsense, when in reality we're well managed and can pretty much make whatever moves we want the majority of the time.

I think as of now we're positioned for about $56 million below the cap next season.

Of all the things to worry about.

Pick good players, coach them up, sign good players, play well. Worry about that.

Not generally a place for rational well thought out or expressed discussions. I only wish i could stay away!!!! Lol

Never really understood the fear of Dawn becoming Dawn the Conquorer. But we did have a lot of high-clearance cooks in the proverbial front office kitchen when Tbum got added to the mix

I think TBum felt threatened by her presence and pressured Ross to "promote" her outside the team. Also believe he felt threatened by Hickey and couldn't wait to kill a few birds with one stone by "promoting" Grier, a career Peter Principler, as his rubber stamp lackey. TBum really is a snake IMO.

I do wonder about this. I genuinely thought Hickey did a decent job, all things considered.

And Aponte was very good at her job, but the one thing that will always stick in my head about her is the part I saw in "Hard Knocks" where she was heard responding to the contract offset language demand by Tannehill's agent by saying, "Then let him re-enter the draft next year." You just don't do that stupid **** on camera. It came off as posturing, and it's probably unfortunate that THAT is the memory I have of her.

That's a fair question. But let's look at the facts.

1. She was very good at salary cap negotiations, and that was her one and possibly only strength.
2. Very often front offices get messed up by putting non-football people in decision making positions above the football people, and that definitely happened to the Dolphins detriment when Aponte was here. IMHO, this is where it all fell apart. If she stays out of this, she's still here running our salary cap.
3. When the power struggle happened, the candidate she backed won--Philbin. We lost a GM who was much maligned, but has recently resurfaced in New Orleans and seems to again be spotting talent well. Most importantly, he was loyal to Ross and was very good at helping Ross keep his foot out of his mouth ... which he was very capable of doing absent someone helping him.
4. When Philbin proved unsuccessful, his team was washed clean, as almost any new head coach would not want people loyal to the former coach mucking about above their heads. This meant Aponte had to go when Gase arrived ... or before. This also means she will not be brought back while Gase is here. Now, any coach will likely resent her presence, so if she comes back, it will not be with the Dolphins while Ross is owner.
5. Apparently, she also had a lot to say before she came to Miami, so this method appears to be consistent for her. Non-Football people making decisions over football people and football matters tends to be a recipe for disaster, and it is typically resolved by the non-football people losing their jobs. Not sure she would get another chance, but I also am not sure she would want to come back into that atmosphere.

Bottom line, whether she could help or not, she's not coming back while Gase is head coach.

This is really well thought-out. Kudos.

Dawn Aponte was a cancer inside the organization just like she was in Cleveland. She only looks out for herself and snitches on everyone in the building.

I don't know why people like her or think she is so great. Did they read an article by some reporter or something. What is so great about our cap situation?
Many people can do her job. I thought for sure when I saw the thread it would be negative, I'm kind of shocked.
