We still need a corner and unless someone gets released in TC there really isnt any over the top talent out there. So Godfrey makes the most sense. However I think Nicks is the best OL left and he fills the last spot on our line making us young and versatile. With Nick we have three true tackles with two of them being paid the kind of money that can be moved to G. Long makes tackle money so he will play tackle. Nicks can play gaurd or move to tackle and let Carey move to RG. This puts Smiley at LG beside the rookie Long. I like this pick but I guess it depends on what the FO thinks of Mormino.

Maybe we trade out of it for a late 3rd and another fourth or a fifth?

If we want a Guard we can probably get John Greco of Toledo in Round 4 and move him around on the line....probably have him play LG. I would take a CB like Godfrey with our first pick of the 3rd round tomorrow.

Being from Husker nation...getting to watch him in full swing this past season...I would love for the Fins to pick him up tomorrow. Whether that means Carey moves to guard or they would move Nicks to guard, I think we'd be looking at one solid line.

CB is not a need. if it was a need then they would have drafted one or traded JT with a pick for Sheppard. obviously BP doesnt feel that CB is a need.

now, im not going to go all out and bet my house and car on it because JI did mention that he had a "core" position in mind with the #64 pick, but he did mention that they would field interest on who would offer the best offer on a trade, but "core" position can very well be Mario Manningham at WR, which would bring us the Wolverine trio of Long, Henne, and Manningham.

Manningham would be a very good pick in my opinion, being that we already have a speedster in Ginn, a big redzone target in Wilford, and then we'd have a playmaking possession guy in Manningham....not to mention that he already has chemistry developed with his MICH QB in Henne.

Im just excited about this draft.

Long, Merling, and Henne; plus Okoyele and Fasano via trade is an awesome first day so far...

I heard Nicks has legal problems which is why he's dropping. Dont know if its true though...

At this point we've missed all the top tier CB talent. We could roll the dice on King or Godfrey, but I'd almost rather wait for Ikegwuonu, Scandrick or Branch later if we're rolling the dice on a developmental corner.

Dan Connor should be the pick IMHO. Unless there is an injury or something we're not hearing about, I don't understand his slide to be honest.

Carl Nicks has some serious red flags, character is only one of them. There's a reason someone with his talent isn't being scooped up in this draft when 8 OT's were taken in the first round yet Nicks lasted through the entire 2nd round unselected.

As for linemen, I see a lot of guys we could take still out there, like Mike McGlynn who I think is the best G left (yes I rate him ahead of Greco), or some later round talents like Kerry Brown of Appalachian State, Kirk Barton of Ohio State (can't play T but might make it at G), and a few other guys who are strong run blocking linemen.

IMHO, we left the land of the elite OL in the 1st round, and now there's a big dropoff in talent at T or we're looking at G. People say this isn't a good G draft, but that is misleading because most of the NFL G's played T in college, so we're looking at projections, and there's still a fair amount of those guys left. It's just a fact that in the NFL T is a much more important position than G, so the G's tend to be left overs or lower selections.

i agree with your post minus the part where you start claiming someone should play a position because that is how much they make. You play someone where they will do best for the team, not based on how much they make.

I say so with Justin King or Godfrey or Dan Connor if not one of those guys trade down
