SATURDAY DOLPHINS REPORTAmong Dolphins receivers who lack a large body of work, Roberto Wallace and Julius Pruitt consistently have received the most praise from teammates the past two months. The Dolphins coaching staff apparently agrees. With Brian Hartline missing practice because of a calf injury, Pruitt received playing time with the first team Saturday when the Dolphins went to a four-receiver set, along with Chad Johnson, Davone Bess and Legedu Naanee.“I’m expecting this to be a big year for me,” Pruitt said. “I’ve improved a lot.”Wallace received some work with the starters during the team’s offseason program, and Pruitt and Wallace appear to be running fifth and sixth among Dolphins’ receivers. It’s difficult to envision Miami keeping more than six, if that many.

But it’s still early, and Clyde Gates and others have a chance.
Of Pruitt and Wallace, coach Joe Philbin said: “You like their body types. They’ve caught the ball very well. You watch them run around the field, they’re the first guys in their drills and they’re hustling.“I love their attitude. I think they have good skill. I think they run well. I think they have good hands. I think those two guys definitely have a future and I’m excited to see what they’re going to do during training camp.”Hartline declined to discuss his injury but said he feels “pretty good.” Asked about Hartline’s chances of being a No. 1 receiver, Philbin said: “I can’t tell you right now… if he’s the No. 1 receiver or not.”

If they are still impressing when the pads come on...then I'll jump on that bandwagon. Until then...the jury is still out.

I wonder what will happen at receiver. Who steps up?

Has Hartline's injury and contract year mean he's losing spots on the depth chart?
Has the offense ever envisioned Bess as #2 opposite of Johnson?
Moving a Reggie Bush into the slot from the backfield or using a Wallace, Naanee in the slot for their size advantage on quick reads?

A lot of question marks especially at the WR position. I can see a lot of personnel changes at the position like our D-LINE to keep match ups constantly changing and legs fresh.

Every year we hear about an unknown WR or two (granted Wallace isn't really unknown at this point) in camp who shine and play great. And they never amount to anything. I stopped getting my hopes up

If they are utilized properly by the coaching staff, unlike before, we may here more from them.

There are two things here, 1) Marshall had all the spotlight when it comes the the WR position, now that he's gone it creates a void for one of these guys to step up. They'll get more looks for sure but they still have to show something, the opportunity is right there staring at them. 2) I beleive Philbin has the ability to put them in a much better position to succeed than Sparano would ever have.

Davone Bess.....undrafted out of Hawaii

this is true and....if they are running two teams at a time everyone is getting reps so everyone is getting looks. Not a whole lot being said about mathews or cunningham but i think we are hiding them bigtime. PS bound.

Wallace is a proven commodity on special teams; Pruitt and Moore also have both WR and ST experience. All 3 are hungry (and cheap), have paid their dues and deserve a shot. I'd look for cuts "up the WR chart" with guys like Gates and Naanee, even Johnson and Hartline; they could be cut or traded if they don't separate from the pack nor establish their usefulness in some other capacity. Bessie is a good slot and PR; he should be a lock. The rookies have a lot to learn; I see them as practice-squaders and late season replacemennts.

Neither made plays today. Had major trouble separating against 2nd and 3rd team DB's. Jeff Fuller looks better than both of them, and that's not saying much. I do agree that Pruitt is a special teams demon and will likely make the team on that alone.
