Day of the Dolphins: Pressure's on to take Tannehill ... now

The Miami Dolphins aren't on the clock. Not yet anyway. But they're under the gun ... maybe more so than anyone in the first round of Thursday's NFL draft.
The team that was rebuffed by free-agent quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Matt Flynn has the eighth draft pick -- which is the perfect spot to choose Ryan Tannehill, a quarterback who, presumably, won't say, "no," and who was coached by the Dolphins' offensive coordinator, Mike Sherman, at Texas A&M.
It's the perfect marriage. Miami could use another quarterback. Tannehill would go to an offense he knows. Sherman would reunite with a quarterback who flourished in his system. And Dolphins fans would gain something they haven't had in awhile.
Which is hope.
I'm not saying the Dolphins should take Tannehill. What I am saying is that the pressure to choose him is enormous -- especially with those reports (later denied) that owner Stephen Ross sent down orders that he wanted him drafted.
I don't know that Tannehill solves Miami's problems, but if I were coach Joe Philbin or Sherman I'd want a quarterback I could develop -- which is another way of saying I'd want something more than Matt Moore and David Garrard.

Tannehill is the most obvious choice.
I know, I know, in a perfect world Ryan Tannehill isn't a Top-10 pick. Heck, in a perfect world, he may not be a first-round pick, with former coach Brian Billick, now an analyst for Fox and the NFL Network, comparing him to draft bust JaMarcus Russell.
But last year's draft should have told you something about the value of quarterbacks in today's NFL, and if you think Ryan Tannehill is Jake Locker or better, I suggest Miami is in a tough spot ... because Jake Locker was the eighth choice of the 2011 draft.
"I love the guy," said former Dallas player personnel director Gil Brandt. "I talked to Billick and I said, 'How could you ever compare him to Russell?' I mean, it's like comparing New York City to Big Sky, Montana. There's no comparison.

He will b a triple threat in the wildcat ! I can't wait we can spread him out wide or he can take off and run or pass. We are gonna have defenses confused. Plus I always loved the wildcat
 
we will find out soon enough!..I'm not really on board for Tannehill,but who know's,maybe he will be good.
 
I would be very surprised if they don't take Tannehill. He's already familiar with Sherman's WCO and can come in and compete immediately. You know Ross wants a first round QB as well. If you can say one good thing about Ireland, it's that he doesn't over-think things. He's gonna make his owner and his coaches happy with Tannehill. And you could do a lot worse talent-wise... he can make the throws, he's versatile, athletic, proven he can make pro-style reads. Has the intangibles as a leader and hard worker. He's not Peyton or Luck but let's face it, he's our best shot at a franchise QB at the moment. The only reason I can think to not take him is if Sherman doesn't give him his endorsement.
