Day One Practice Notes per Sun-Sentinal...

You know people are going to love that note on Clyde Gates. I was so happy when Miami drafted him last year, happier than when they drafted Rishard Matthews this year. Would be nice if Gates started showing something. He's so goddamn athletic and fast. One of the fastest men in the NFL. Put him up against Chris Johnson and I don't know which one would win.

I'm going to be so pissed if they cut Gates. Someone else will pick him up instantly, he is going to be a true threat NFL receiver. We will be scratching our heads and asking ourselves why we let him go....

Clyde Gates could simply be another Ted Ginn. A guy who does just enough to make a roster but never really progresses. I would be disappointed if he didn’t make the team but I don’t get the feeling that Philbin will keep him if he doesn’t start to show something.

This mentality seems backwards to me. What is supposed to happen is your first 3 rounds of the draft should be guys you plug in right away, proven talent who should have immediate impact. Then your later round guys you develope over 2 - 3 years. Here in Miami land we are all okay with Tanney being the #8 pick overall and sitting an entire year but go ahead and gut Gates (major raw talent) if he doesn't show anything right away. Ugh...sdrawkcab...

Hmmm.....very fast, gets open, can't catch it consistently. This sounds eerily familiar....

I really do not understand the Clyde Gates love. Entirely unwarranted. I wasn't seeing him being held back by poor QB play and I didn't see any real flashes of ability there. I will absolutely defer to the expertise of CK on this though, especially if he likes him more than Matthews. Matthews I really really liked in college.

I didn't see Gates in college so I can't comment

if gates gets open with ease as has been reported he's far ahead of most of these marginal wrs in my book...of course catching the balls important don't get me wrong but most these guys can't separate...

too early to give up on clyde gates...

I have a lot of respect for Gates' speed and explosion. I watched a lot of him in college and while it was clear the route running was totally under-developed, he showed good hands and ball tracking ability to go along with the ridiculous speed. I think there's a role for him. He's at forefront of the entire league in the speed/athleticism department. He's not just some 4.4 guy, he's a 4.3 guy with 11 foot broad jump ability, vertical, and he's got hands. If he washes out, it would be a shame. Ted Ginn is one of the most non-physical players I've ever seen yet he continually finds roles in this league. He even put together an 800 yard season with us if I'm not mistaken. To me, Gates might be even faster and more explosive than Ginn, and I personally believe he's more physical (he's done a lot of boxing, actually).

can we get confirmation on where misi is playing...one guy says will the other strong...makes more sense to me strong
