DB KeiVarae Russell, 2016 3rd round pick, released by Chiefs

Why release a pick you just made this year? Doesn't sound right

Also just read that ray rice is in excellent shape and multiple teams are interested

"Listen, we felt that was best for the Chiefs right now," Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. "He's a good young man and I think he has a good future, but for right now, that's what we needed."

Reid characterized the move as strictly a "personnel decision."

"I think he's a smart kid," he said of the former Notre Dame standout. "Again, this was just a matter of we felt for right now, this was the best move to help us out where we're sitting."

McCain, Lippitt and Lucas out and Russell, Dee Millner and Blidi Wreh-Wilson in... sign me up. The unit (Howard, Maxwell, Millner, Russell and Wilson.)might not be better, but the potential and overall talent level would improve. You could always put McCain and Lippitt on the practice squad.

I'm game to pick him up and develop him.. Was injured late in college, wonder what's going on now? I thought the 3rd round was high for him anyways. Seemed kinda raw to me

Man there has to be something seriously wrong to justify releasing a 3rd round pick after week 1...

Pick him up and put Lucas on the PS.

You don't so publicly squander a 3rd round pick, especially considering how bad it reflects on the front office, unless there's something seriously wrong. Where there's smoke there's fire IMO. Now it may be just him "canoodling" with a star's wife or mother (hello LeBron), which merits quick passage out of town, but I suspect it's something more troubling about him. So for me it's a case of "Beware of Greeks bearing gifts" :idk:

Exactly. What adds to my worry is fans in the Chiefs forum are just as clueless on WHY as fans are here. A quick search shows no references to poor play or bad scheme.

No. I guarentee Bobby McCain doesn't make it to PS. Hes our weakness but hes no scrub just needs another year in my opinion. The same goes for Lippet. Lippett is going to be pretty good next year

I like Russell, but we probably don't have the space or time for anymore developmental projects in the secondary.

If we did get him I'd like to see him switch to safety though.
