For the second year in a row, the Dolphins hired a defensive coordinator whose previous coaching stop was with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Matt Burke was hired this offseason to replace Vance Joseph after Joseph left to become head coach of the Denver Broncos, and both came to the Dolphins after working for Head Coach Marvin Lewis in Cincinnati.

Just like he did at the scouting combine last year with Joseph, Lewis offered praise as he recalled his time working with Burke.

“Matt came to us very highly recommended by Jimmy Schwartz, who I’m very close with,” Lewis said. “Schwartzy had him on his staff there in Detroit and really felt so strong about him. Matt is very intelligent, he understands football, did a great job there in Cincinnati with us. I’m excited for him to get his opportunity there.”

The connection here to be made is they are all 4-3 Over defensively-minded coaches whose units always **** the bed in the playoffs.

. . . yeah

If the shoe fits . . .

What's nauseating is using one of the oldest base defenses in NFL history and a scheme from the '90's against today's modern offenses.

To think of it this is our third DC from Cincy in a row. That is something.

I'm not pumped about it either if it makes you feel any better. :idk:

Dull. The D certainly isnt the problem for the Bengals in the playoffs

Jim Schwartz and Marvin Lewis combined lack of success in the playoffs would say otherwise. As does any team that runs the 4-3 Over when it comes to the post-season in more recent times.

It may not be the one and only factor, but it is most certainly a limiting one.

With the exception of Carolina I can agree with you there

Terrible thread title to fit your nauseating agenda.

Haha I didn't even look to see who made this thread. But based on your comments I already knew who it had to be!

Anyone care to discuss their knowledge on it, maybe discuss the advantages or disadvantages of our defense?

or shall this just be a ****-slinging fest of, "OMG, it's him again", because you don't understand it's philosophy and concepts?

Again, everyone was appreciative when we dismantled Lazor's crap scheme. Is it just because most only comprehend offense via fantasy football and QB love?

Correct. They also had to have exceptional talent across the board by investing a vast amount of draft resources into it while also spending a lot in FA as well. And when all was said and done it was only sustainable for a single season.

Well if we had some players at LB we just might be talking about how good the 4-3 over is for us. We just lack talent at the lb positions for it to work.

It goes a lot further than just the LB corp.

Our scheme also differs from that of DC Sean McDermott (a disciple of the great Jim Johnson) in that they are a zone blitzing 4-3 Over.

We live and die by the pressure created from the front 4.

Hopefully Gase will make the same caliber quality assistant coaching decisions that has distinguished Belichick's more recent tenure. On a positive note, relatively speaking, Gase is already ahead of him at the start of their head coaching careers.

I feel like once we get Reshad back, we can be more dynamic in the scheme. We need that roamer that can shoot the flats or hover in the intermediate routes to disguise what we're doing up in the front 7
