DC Matt Burke on WQAM with Joe Rose

Truly hope he can take our LB core to the next level or at least fix the issue. If Koa Misi or Paysinger see the field next year, nothing will have changed. We definitely don't need rookie LB's that will take time to learn the game. We need to attack free agency and try to get as many LB's as possible. We would be better served getting a top tier safety, tight end, CB, or DE in the draft that can come in start playing right away.

We saw what happened the last time we tried to draft linebackers. Maybe his experience as LB's coach will help pull the trigger on a special talent.

They talked about the possibility of moving Kiko outside and he did not seem opposed to the idea. Getting a thumper run stopper for the middle in FA or the draft would be ideal IMO

Misi is history I believe but Paysinger will probably stick around more for his special teams than his LB skills. Dude made a ton of tackles there last season.

Yeah we got some guys who couldn't stay healthy but we're still looking at Alex Anzalone who can't stay healthy in college.

I'm hoping he learned a few things from his time in Cincinnati since they do a pretty good job in the draft.

This interview doesn't really give any inside information. Much of the same stuff we heard from Grier and Tannenbaum. More speed at linebacker and overall team defense. He measures a good defense by points given up and stops...3rd down stops and red zone stops (echoing Vance Joseph).

Said Adam Gase had the staff take a couple of weeks off and they just got back and are now getting into evaluating the season and players. Said it was a good move cause you don't want to focus on how the season ended but more the overall season.

Jog my memory on the last time we tried to draft a LB. It's pretty darn sad that I can't remember the last LB we drafted. I guess Jordan Tripp . . . but I mean like a legit top 3 round guy. I remember Crowder in 2005 . . . is that the last time? Pretty sad if it is.

C'mon Kdawg lol. Koa Misi, A.J. Edds, Chris McCoy, Austin Spitler (2010), Josh Kaddu (2012), Jelani Jenkins (2013), and Jordie Tripp (2014)...about on par with most other positions we've drafted lol.

Misi was a 2nd rounder
Edds was a 4th
Kaddu was a 5th
Jenkins a 4th
Tripp a 5th

That's why Miami is in the mess it's in right now.

That one year we went all in on LB's we got little out of it

Koa Mising in the second round 2010

Wasn't Misi technically pegged as a DE in 2010 and eventually got converted?

I'm talking about a pure 4-3 LB/3-4 ILB in the top 3 rounds of the draft.

Crowder right?

Well he added the top of the draft after I started my reply. Regardless those players do suck but those were the players Ireland thought would be good...no surprise.

We haven't even TRIED to address the linebacker spot since 2014. Everyone knows our linebacking corp sucks except the front office who have ignored it for 2 years.

He played DE in college but was pegged as a 3-4 OLB during the draft process. At the time, with us having converted to the 3-4 in 2008, it was a fit. I remember them putting Misi through linebacker drills at the combine and having him cover TEs in drills.

Remember we went out and got Wheeler and Ellerby who both sucked and before that Burnett and Dansby.

They have spent resources on the position just not high draft choices.

Which was Ireland's MO. He couldn't fix it through the draft because his picks failed so he would try to fix it in free agency...which also failed.
