DC scouting report: Jerry Hughes

He just seems too small to be the Strong side guy. I like him, Spoon and most of all Thomas if we cant get McClain or B-Ry

Small ?????

The guy's around 6'3 and 260 pounds and plays like it.

He holds his ground on the run and runs like a deer. What more could you want from a guy coming out of college.

Here's another scouting report on him """ Hughes is an explosive, athletic defensive end/linebacker type similar to Baltimores' Terrell Suggs. He plays with a mean streak and can hold his ground at the point of attack. He can be extremely disruptive when turned loose and on the move in the open field. Shows good range, and takes adequate pursue angles. He is a straight-ahead player who primarily rushed the passer on passing downs. With excellent first step, he does a good job on anticipating the snap; is an intense tackler and always seems to be near the ball."" http://www.fftoolbox.com/nfl_draft/profile_display.cfm?Prospect_ID=1772

If you look at all the OLB Bill and Jeff like to draft, have drafted no one in this draft looks more like them then Hughes.

Even after Bill left the Dallas Cowboys Jeff drafted Anthony Spencer who just happens to be the same kind of player Bill has drafted for years at OLB. 6'3 over 240, and run's a 4.6 40 yard dash.

Who does this sound like http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/2007/draft/players/1978.html hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm i wonder.

Bill and Jeff like their OLB'ers around 6'3 and over 240 so they can hold their ground and set the edge.Next they have to run around a 4.6 40 yard dash because they are further away from the QB then a 4-3 DE.I'm not saying you don't understand this, but many here don't seem to.

He has a slender frame, he doesnt really use his hands enough to fight off blocks, isn't overly physicall in run support. Small was a bad word. He is like a Kindle with more of a motor, a great Weak side backer IMO.
